DISCLAIMER

This chapter of the AU has some scenes that can be deemed mildly violent and likely unsafe for minors and those who are a bit sensitive.

This also gives off a major spoiler to the original source which is Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and is only minorly altered to fit into the BatIM fandom (unnecessarily the lore)

Please read with these precautions in mind.

The Story Behind the Door

Mr. Gabriel Uttertom was a straightforward cartoon he was; probably the most straightforward fellow you would find in the great city of London. He was rather indifferent for such a fine wolf; he rarely smiled or bared his teeth. He only had a few friends, either being people he knew for as long as time ticked, or of his family. However, he did have quite a fancy for wine and enjoyed the art of theatre, despite haven't ed through the doors of one for twenty years. He enjoyed Sunday walks with his cousin, Boris Frank Enfield; they don't speak to each other that often (it would be small talk if they did) and would only share friendly glances at each other before looking away again.

One mundane Sunday, the two were walking their usual way, quiet as usual, until they stopped near a seemingly locked back door. Uttertom was ready to continue walking, except Boris interrupted the routine for the moment, staring immensely at the door like he were to have ed something from it

"You know, dear cousin, many a story have come from that fine craft of a door.", he started to speak, taking off the bone he had in his mouth

"There have, indeed!", Uttertom replied, looking at the door with his normally indifferent emotion, then turning to Enfield afterwards.

"Would you like me to tell you one? One I've been both lucky and unlucky to witness?", his cousin spoke up again, his ears perking up and his eyes gleaming, only to dullen once more after saying such.

"By all means, tell me about it.", Gabriel answered. "I would love to know how you ended up in such a situation."

In a split second, Enfield cleared his throat a bit, threw the bone he was holding, and began to tell the story.

"In the usual time of the strike of 8, you reckon I'd be home from work by then. Due to some certain mishaps, however, was I sent out at the near stroke of midnight. Here's where my story begins, as I was just walking my usual route home."

"Now that may seem like nothing but an extraordinarily mundane event in the late evening, but what I witnessed went from something normal to something unhuman and horrid! Now the child, a fine young male he was, was running to the same direction the tall fellow, who seemed to be in a hurry as well. They both bumped into each other, much to the child's fault of not looking at his direction. As for the other? I expected him to punish the kid, but he did far worse. He continued his way but in such an irritated manner; why he strongly stepped on the child's abdomen!"

"It was already bad enough when they bumped into each other. But crushing a child?!"

"The child's screams were seemingly louder than all of Big Ben's bells, and the very few people in the area, human and toon, who were drawn to the spectacle would agree with me. They surrounded the two, helping the child out and angrily yelling at the man, myself ing in. One of them called for the officers nearby, and we all expected to watch the culprit run. Mind you, I still had energy in me if I were to chase him down to the ends of England and the New World, itself! But that was all thrown out the window when we all saw that he didn't move any further from where he was, give or take a few turns."

"It was a surprise...He didn't even try to flee!"

"It was probably best if he didn't, and he knew it. Nobody would want more trouble to occur, especially in the middle of the night! Soon enough, one or a couple of officers arrived, along with a doctor and the child's parents. Turns out, the child was running to grab medicine from the dealers at the edge of town! As for the tall guy, despite he was interrogated, didn't have much to say. He claimed he was 'going for a midnight stroll since he couldn't sleep'. It was seemingly believeable, given his easy temper; but it was no excuse for him to injure a child in the streets! When the parents and the small crowd demanded him to pay, he surprisingly agreed as he went into a room from this very door! He came back with two large bags of money and a clear cheque, one for the family and one for the doctor. Since the bank was closed at this hour, we (everyone in the situation) agreed to meet at the exact same place in the early rise of morning, which we did. The fellow signed the cheque and we all went our own way after, mine to work."

_

Enfield ended his story there, his eyes wide from telling so much to his cousin. Uttertom looked at his cousin, his head cocked.

"Did you try to inspect the cheque to see its genuineness?", he asked him in curiosity.

"Yes I have! I even had the privilege to see it for more than a second!", his cousin replied.

"And?"

"It was no counterfeit! I even asked the bankers to its authenticity and I was given a response of approval! Quite surprising for someone I have never seen in the streets...ever!"

The last sentence hit Gabriel's curiosity to a high level. He thought hard of something and turned back to Boris after.

"Do you know what he looks like?", he asked quickly in seemingly excitement.

"Well...I do know he was tall, had a long demon's tail, and was leaking terribly with ink, which I thought was what he was trying to get rid of while walking in the middle of twilight. As for his face, sadly I only saw only part of it when he turned to my direction, which made me stop yelling at him. His face was leaking with his black ink as well, and his teeth were bared frequently with two fang-like ends to the last two of them. And believe it or not, dear cousin, but the moment I saw him, even before the entire fiasco, I felt a sudden chill in my spine and a feeling of fear, disgust, and hate in a split second. Did it ? No!"

"Why would you think that?", his cousin asked. Enfield thought long and hard, and finally answered him.

"I may be wrong, but I think it's his eyes that give off everyone's sense of hate."

The two were silent for a while, until Uttertom broke it with a final question.

"Did you at least get his name?"

"Why...yes I did! He was a certain Inke...Edward Inke. To be honest, I thought he came from the Welsh or something because of the surname...yet his given name is like that of our origin! I must say, it even matched his dysfunction given he was leaki--"

"I think that's enough words we have spilled out, mostly you!", Uttertom interrupted. They both looked at each other because of it.

"Let's...not speak of this until another valid time..."

"And a valid time is almost always never! Very well, Gabriel!", Boris answered as they both continued their walk. While strolling around, Uttertom thought about that Inke. He knew something, but wasn't willing to say anything yet. When the two finally parted ways in the evening, he still had that uncomfortable thought of the name.

AFTER HOW MANY YEARS, THE OFFICIAL CHAPTER FOR THE AU IS O U T ! ! !

(***cue gross happy tears)

I must say, this entire trip of mine with Bendyll and Inke was such a bumpy one. Since 2017, I have been constantly trying to figure out a way to settle with the plot I was going for. There were times I set the AU in the musical plot of Jekyll and Hyde (the music is really great, go check it out!), times I went back to the book, times I mixed both and times I went completely on improv mode. In the end, I settled with the book.

You're probably gonna look the AU up in the Amino and find that it was ed here last 2017 May

But I actually have proof that I first did anything related to the AU last 2017 April

Now for the characters....Oh gOD the characters...I think I'm not the only crossover AU creator who would come up to the audience and say "There was no way I could've settled with what I have now". In fact, the first version of the AU only had Bendy and Boris being the characters from the game, when everyone else were OC's (mine included from when I still had Digi as a main mascot). It then reached the point where when I kept on adding and removing characters and changing roles due to me not being able to settle with any of them. I ended up saying that I will use the canon characters, but due to so many characters in the game (ie. Susie, Allison (human), Joey, Henry, Wally, etc.) not being fully established and developed and the fact that I made the AU on APRIL OF 2017, It wouldn't be a surprise that I had no choice to wait for all five chapters to be able to settle with the characters' roles, along with their designs as well. Thank God, I am so happy I settled with each and every role in the AU, since in the book, all characters have a role (even background characters), just as all characters in the game also have a role.

Now how I planned to play this out was not so much of a challenge, as I settled with simply writing it. However, since I ed how I so many times wanted to make it either an animatic set like Ink Potts' animatic set of Dr. Pinkie and Ms. Pie or into a comic like those of the Glass Scientists and the Search for Henry Jekyll (simply to practice doing such since comics were and still are my biggest weak point when storytelling and drawing), I couldn't settle with either as a single thing on its own. This is why I am making the AU multimedia-based, as it will have either a combination of writing and broken/fixed comic (like this chapter, which is writing and broken comic), writing and animatic, plain animatic or plain comic, depending on which best fits the chapter and/or situation.

I am really just so happy I finally settled with what I am going for, and I hope you me in the completion of this AU, even if it will take an entire damn year to do so!

I hope you enjoyed this debut chapter of the AU!
