this post is a basic explanation

of trigger warning, what they are

and how and why to use then.

              what is it

         triggers are defined as "an event,

          situation or object that causes

          something to start". the "event,

          situation or object" can be some-

         thing that is commonly considered

          triggering, such as r*ape, or be

          something as common-place as

          jelly. the "something" that a trigger

          causes also differs from people to

          people; it can be a panic attack, a

          ptsd episode, or simply a pure

          physical reaction.

         there are several reasons why

          something can be a trigger, but

          the important emphasis must be

          put that triggers aren't something

          a person can choose to have, and

          people who have triggers don't

          have to explain why to others.

         trigger warnings are used to make

          sure people don't have a negative

          reaction to your content, and are

          very helpful in general to label what

          kind of public you're speaking to.

              why / how to use it

         it isn't exactly a hard rule, but it is

          a common courtesy to give trigger

          warnings to some common

          subjects, such as r*ape, g*re,

          violence, and so on. of course,

          amino rules itself prevent 18+

          content, but some subjects are

          more sensitive and might need

          specific warnings.

         to use a trigger warning, it is quite

          simple; just write out the warning

          before your message, skip some

          lines to leave a space so the

          can choose if they want to see it or

          not. that's all!

         triggers are, again, something that

          varies depends on the person and

          their personal experience; it is not

          up to you to determine what's a

          "valid" trigger. someone does not

          have to explain their backstory to

          have their triggers respected.

         that being said, it is also not your

          job to tag and warn everything you

          do; trigger warnings are done to

          help your audience and to avoid

          upsetting people; if someone asks

          for a warning, it is only the polite

          thing to do to add it.
