The spotlight stays with the cartoon community with the final two matches in the group stages. Group D is all that is left for the year before we enter playoffs mode in the voting tournament for 2022. Only ten candidates are left in the race for the year with six already punched their ticket to the big dance from their respective groups, the most recent being Marcy Wu (Amphibia) and Judy Tobin (The Great North) who advanced to the quarterfinals and eliminated the defending champions Owl House. And now, the focus for the next two weeks is on Group D with only two spots left to be filled. This week’s candidates in the spotlight go to Marco Diaz (Star vs The Forces of Evil) and Cole Tillerman (Central Park).

Marco Diaz and the SVTFOE fandom, on the verge of making it back to the playoffs since 2017 and could, if not already be ready to take the frontrunner status from the current frontrunner of the group, Gene Belcher. Sitting at a 1-1 record with a win over Dipper Pines back in March and lost to Gene Belcher a few months later in May. Could he make the playoffs? It’s possible. Could he not? It’s also possible. Anything can happen between this week’s match and the next to close out the group stages.

Meanwhile, with Cole Tillerman, Central Park fans and voters, tell me you heard this before. You lose in the first match of the campaign and think that the season is automatically dead in the water, only to score a win in the next match. Happened last year with Molly Tillerman with a loss against Luz Noceda, a win against Anne Boonchuy, only to lose to Courtney Wheeler and get eliminated in the sixth and final match of the group stage. It’s possible that we’re about to relive it once again with Cole this year after a loss against Gene and a win against Dipper and sitting nicely at 1-1. Last place but still alive in the race. Cole in the playoffs is possible if the next match against Gene and Dipper doesn’t reach a certain threshold unless a tie in second place forces a wild card match.

The next two weeks for Group D is all on the line with the final two spots of the playoffs ready to be filled up. The winner of the group takes on Judy Tobin from The Great North. The runner-up takes on Marcy Wu from Amphibia. Who will win? You decide! Vote today!
