My theory on Jackie, and why she is my favorite character

Ok, I know the initial reaction I'll get will be "she should die" or "omg I hate her because StarCo" but I see Jackie in a different way...

I honestly think Jackie should get more love and attention in the show, most of her hate comes from the fact that she either has little character or that she is awkwardly perfect, I do it this is true, but I think that's why she needs more development. I think she can have flaws, and that she's not some sort've siren.

In the show, Jackie is the love interest of Marco, who she at this point is currently in a relationship with. She is portrayed as a beautiful, kind person, who has an avid love for skateboarding. Jackie is a half of the ship "Jarco," and has little relevance to the story so far aside for shipping purposes. The episode "Sleepover" is likely the first one where you can say she was relevant, in this episode, it's notable that we can see a change in her thoughts on Marco, especially after what Marco said about her when he confronted the Monster in the "Truth or Consequences" machine. Jackie even went so far as to say "I don't know anymore" after Star asked who she liked for the second time in the episode. At this part is where I can argue that we started to notice more character in her.

The character in Jackie has started to grow slightly since then, but we have come to an abrupt stop in the episode flow, and are yet to learn more. Which brings me to a theory that might be true, what if Jackie doesn't want to be perfect? Jackie is shown to be a kind person, and we've seen little conflict in her, despite some confusion and the "Sleepover" scene that I just discussed. Maybe Jackie though, has some sort of conflict in her, what if Jackie doesn't like being known as "perfect"

Jackie could have a big conflict internally that we are yet to know about, she could have problems with being known as this "Perfect" person, she knows she's known as "perfect" so she has a bad conflict in herself with being this person that everyone wants to be. Jackie is the "Celebrity" of Echo Creek high, and celebrities are many times seen as these "role models" who are above others. For example, when Jackie is skateboarding down to her locker, everyone sort of looks at her, she may be smiling, but she is probably not on the inside, she probably just wants to be at the "normal" level where she isn't looked up to.

Yes, one can argue that Star would be going through the same thing if this was true, but Jackie isn't Star! Jackie isn't a Magical Princess from another dimension, Jackie isn't taught how to deal with the attention, at least not that we know of.

"Not that we know of" is a phrase that can describe Jackie and Moon Butterfly, they're both current known-to-be living characters in the show, who are living in two different dimensions, with two different characters. (Yes, I am captain obvious)

Jackie in my opinion is essentially the "Moon Butterfly" of Earth, both have likely received attention all of their lives, but both have a different way of taking it. Jackie takes it as a curse, and doesn't want to be at the top of the school, and the center of attention. She just wants to be normal. In Moon Butterfly's life however, she has basically taken her spot as the Queen of Mewni, and doesn't really care for the lower spot in the chain of the population, (the monsters) Queen Butterfly has taken the "Cult of Personality" role, and wants Star to follow suit,

as most Queens haven't done that, especially Eclipsa, Queen of Darkness. Eclipsa is most known so far for being the "edgy" one, she was the one who left Mewni in exchange for a monster as her love. Queen Butterfly has seen Star to be independent, and more "outgoing" than young Queen Butterfly was, seeing this, Queen Moon fears that Star won't eventually take her path, and that she'll take Eclipsas path. Jackie, (yes we're still talking about her on this post) has kinda the same "child" role that Star has, Jackie could take the option she wants as the person who isn't "above" anyone, and be looked down upon, like Eclipsa (with whom she doesn't know about, but would still mean a similar path) or take the "Moon Butterfly" rout as this "bigger" and better person than anybody.

I'm so glad that you're not hating on Jackie just because she's with Marco!I ship Starco but, I don't think that hating on Jackie is reasonable just because she's in the way of Starco.

Wonderful post. I'm looking forward to seeing how they flesh her out more in the latter season. I wrote something similar about Jackie on my own wall. http://aminoapps.vertvonline.info/p/ucja4
