Storyline/plot

As you may have seen already I love Whisper of the Heart! This movie was pretty slow and relaxing which I liked. The characters and scenes were very enjoyable.

I didn't have any expectations for this movie, but I thought that I wouldn't like it because no one really talked about it. I was very wrong! I was really surpirised to see a writer as a main character and that was really nice since I write stories as well.

At the beginning we see Shizuku reading some books and that someone has already read all the same books as her. I think that's a good way to get the person watching the movie more interested in the story.

Next we meet Seiji and can I just say that I love the first intetactions with Seiji and Shizuku. I think it's funny how Seiji teases Shizuku and doesn't always even realize how annoyed Shizuku is by him.

The shop that Shizuku found herself in is very inspirational and beautiful no wonder why she liked it so much. That's also the place where she gets to know Seiji more (and that Seiji is his name). I thought that the scenes that they spent at the workshop were really nice. I was so happy when they started to sing and play the violin together.

It was pretty sad when Seiji had to leave, but I also liked that we got see Shizuku writing her book. Those moments were the most relatable scenes I've ever seen in any movie.

There are even more stuff in this movie, but I'll put here some of my favourite gif's of the movie.

The first scene was really funny, because that's how friends and classmates actually act like. The second, third and fourth were so cute and heart warming. The fifth one was so relatable for me since I also think about my stories almost everywhere. The last one is just so pretty :sparkles: :heartpulse:

Characters

Because this movie is a love story I'll only include Shizuku and Seiji and not the minor characters.

Shizuku Tsukishima

You must be really surpirised when I say that I absolutely love Shizuku :D Like I've said before Shizuku is a relatable character and that's always a good thing. She has good and bad traits like a normal person and she is interesting to follow. She acts like her age around her sister and parents which is surpirising in movies.

She has a funny personality, but she is also kind and understanding. She can still be selfish and annoying which is understandable for any human. She seems honest and not afraid to express her emotions and opinions.

Shizuku also looks normal. She doesn't have a bright hair color like anime characters usually have. Although Ghibli movies always have pretty normal looking characters.

Seiji Amasawa

I mean everyone who watched Whisper of the Heart thought Seiji was lovely, right? I really liked his sarcastic attitude and unique personality. I did think he was a bit annoying at first but after that he was just funny and cool.

I love how near the ending Seiji is so nice to Shizuku and pushes her forward with her dream while also chasing his own dreams. And even tho they were apart for a long time Seiji came just loving Shizuku even more. They are just two characters that are meant to be together no matter what. Like get yourself a guy like that!

He also isn't that boring high school cool kid that every loves and is goot at everything or has "basic" intrests. I mean I guess many people thought he was good looking and pretty cool, but he still seemed to be enjoying his own company.

Art/Visuals

Again the art is BEAUTIFUL! I love the green and brown colors that are seen a lot in this movie. They just fit together so well and gives this calming summery vibe.

The scenery and characters design etc. fit well with the theme and plot of the movie as well. I liked how simple all the backgrounds look but then when you look closer they're actually really complicated. Also the characters don't stand out too much from the backgrounds.

Soundtrack

I don't know why but I found some of the songs kinda funny and interesting at least. They sounded a little weird and they fit well with all the things Shizuku was imagining and all the "magical"things she saw. The songs also didn't distrack the movie at all but were still noticatable in the background.

My favourite song was "The Elf Queen" because it was so magical and sad which fit perfectly with the scene in the movie. Also the song Shizuku and Seiji sang together was really cute!

Final thoughts and rating

Well Whisper of the Heart is my favourite Ghibli movie what else can I say :D I loved everything about it and can't really think anything that was wrong with it. Only thing is that Whisper of the Heart isn't a movie to everyone since it's pretty slow and calm compered to Princess Mononoke for example.

Rating: 5/5
