DID YOU KNOW?
by: Luka
Hey guys, today my facts are on the inspirations and cool things of the Studio Ghibli Movies.
1. The Sound of Totoro’s Roar: Totoro’s deep, rumbling roar was created using slowed-down recordings of a tuba and a lion’s growl.
2. Ghibli’s "Time Off" After Each Film: After completing a film, the studio often gives staff extended breaks to recover from the intense production schedules.
3. Hayao Miyazaki is a Perfectionist: He often redraws or reworks entire scenes even after they are considered finished by the animation team.
4. Miyazaki's Storyboarding Process: He creates storyboards scene-by-scene with no finalized script, allowing the story to develop organically during production.
5. The Crow in Howl’s Moving Castle: Howl’s black crow disguise is inspired by traditional European fairy tales where shapeshifting is common.

AI imitations could never replace the art of Studio Ghibli

[C]Hello Ghibli Community and welcome to this month's newsletter made by the #ghibligazett](https://image.staticox.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fpm1.aminoapps.vertvonline.info%2F9372%2F16cb4754a382beb6837dbc7c57eb46ce9780cd4ar1-1024-2048v2_hq.jpg)
Description: The article from Monocle explains why AI art can’t truly copy the magic of Studio Ghibli. It says that while AI can make images that look like Ghibli’s style, they don’t have the deep feelings, life experiences, or messages—like peace and love for nature—that Hayao Miyazaki puts into his films. The writer also points out that it’s unclear if using a studio’s style this way is even legal, and reminds us that real human creativity is something AI can’t replace. Japan Considers Making AI-Generated Studio Ghibli Images Illegal

[C]Hello Ghibli Community and welcome to this month's newsletter made by the #ghibligazett](https://image.staticox.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fpm1.aminoapps.vertvonline.info%2F9372%2Ff9127424260f4fdfece5a4d5048d85bfcb107412r1-1080-1283v2_hq.jpg)
Description: Japan is considering the legality of AI-generated images that imitate Studio Ghibli's distinctive style. The issue was raised in the House of Representatives by Masato Imai, who questioned whether such "Ghiblification" constitutes copyright infringement. Hirohiko Nakahara responded that while using similar styles or ideas isn't illegal, creating AI images that closely resemble actual Ghibli works could potentially violate copyright laws. This discussion reflects growing concerns about AI's impact on creative industries and the need to address legal and ethical challenges in this evolving landscape. CLOSING QUOTE

“Sometimes What You're Looking For, Comes When You're Not Looking At All” - Ocean Waves
This quote from Ocean Waves (1993) means that sometimes the things we truly want or need—like love, answers, or happiness—appear when we stop trying so hard to find them. It reminds us that life can surprise us, and good things often come when we least expect them.

I agree with making AI Ghibli art illegal. It ruins the magic and looks like slop. Great Newsletter 🩷
