In the episode return, Jasper had every chance to kill Steven, but she didn't. She was about to in the pic below, but she unsummoned her weapon before she knock out steven.

Steven is the main character as refered to the title "Steven universe" if Steven was poofed he would of died, as proven by one of the artists, so Steven would not of been poofed any way

Maybe she wanted to shatter him and wanted to torture him first, so he could beg for mercy and she could enjoy it. Sadistic, I know.
