Mallo 5 - Game Start

Star Wars 5e

The Party

•*◦°✰

Greetings one and all! Welcome to my latest art blog & babble! Today I bring you the party for the SW5e game I’m in.

SW5e uses a lot that is similar to D&D but also uses things and classes that are build for the… I’m going to call it a module for lack of a better word.

Just a heads up- I’m not sure if this is going to end up being an evil aligned game or not- but our characters are not exactly the best of people….

The human woman is Tyra. Though our characters don’t know the term, she’s been isekai’d into the Star Wars universe. She woke up in a most unfortunate circumstance- among the dead. Albion found her, and they’ve been working together ever since.

Tyra is a scout, who fights along-side a touret she’s made. She also… has gotten intimately aware of spice and death sticks since she’s gotten here, which have not been helping with her memory issues in regards to her past life.

Albion- is the Kushiban. He’s generally a smuggler, and pilot, and is very finicky about his ship. He seems gruff, and standoffish, yet he took in a stray (Tyra), willing works with Viev, and mostly put up with the shenanigans of Kak’lune (Viev’s sister who is constantly trying to disassemble and reassemble parts of the ship in hopes of upgrading it).

Albion is a scholar, he analyzes situations before determining best action or where exactly it is he plans to aim. He uses his intelligence first and foremost.

The Twi’lek, is my character, Viev. Viev is part of clan Enouhali- a crime family of twi’leks and allies. She has a great many siblings, but is generally considered most likely to inherit the title of Vinila- given to the family head when they lead the family- this is usually a matriarchal role… usually. Her moral com is the sort that seems to swing around wildly- with one for the few true points on it being her anti-slavery stance.

Viev is an operative, while holding many skills, she uses her charisma first and foremost. She’s not picky about how she fights, but currently has easily hidden weapons. She’s also force sensitive, and has Nexu cub thats also force sensitive.

Currently Albion is in charge when it comes to his ship, but Viev is otherwise oft in charge, especially on their starter mission, as it’s her brother who sent them on it.

Being the beginning of the campaign, I could babble for ages about my character- but unfortunately I don’t have a ton to say about the other two yet.

I will say, this is not the first time I’ve drawn my friends game character’s- but it is the first time I’ve gone out of my way to draw a group shot. I’m thinking of going back after this and drawing new outfits on them for the first quest, or doing a follow up because it took us a whole session for our characters to get new outfits. And after the second session Albion has decided he’s keeping his new fancy outfit..

So this is.. already out of date XD To make matters worse, something happened session one that made Viev have to go change… so she is two outfits behind.. because of course she is. I had asked the dm about her having a backlog of outfits to work through (as long as they aren’t armor) and got permission for her to have a whole wardrobe.

We’ve also established that Viev is very likely to have had an effect on all of their wardrobes… so don’t expect the characters to be in these exact outfits moving forward.

It’s something I’m actually really excited about- a lot of games I don’t super consider their outfits/armor, and I’ve always loved seeing art of how people’s characters have changed from beginning to end of campaign, and I’m hoping to be able to do this with these guys.

I’ve been playing around with how I draw Viev a bit, making her skin tone so dark, I’ll be testing highlights and outline colors in hopes of getting her to be easier to see… sometimes. There are certainly going to be times when I’m going to use her ability to meld into dark backgrounds to my/her advantage.

The other two characters I was originally given references for, but was later able to talk to their players, and get some details tweaked. A lot of people love to find their character art online- but I personally kinda hate using those as a 1for1 reference in my art.

Because of this, its also very likely that Tyra and Albion will update more overtime with future art, as they, with permission, steer further away from their original references and get more of their own unique designs.

I was actually super excited when I asked if anything would be different for the Kushiban, and I was given a new fur pallet to work with. Especially knowing how he tends to show one set of emotions, but is likely internally experiencing a different set- the multicolor fur scheme really seems to fit the rabbit with mood-fur.

If you are curious about the weird double layer of “references” at the beginning were- one was for general ish posing, and the other, I had gotten from an online height comparison chart maker. It’s pretty cool, you put in the heights of whatever characters it is you want to compair, and I’ll give you a line-up style image for you to see the height difference between them.

Which is super useful when you’re a party full of extreme heights, which my particular play group loves to do… as you might be able to tell from the 6ft+ twi’lek… vs rabbit… albeit ittedly the ears do reduce the height difference.

That actually raised and interesting discussion with my group that I’d like to pose to you all- Where do you count height as for your characters? This generally doesn’t apply to straight up humans, but for character like says our Kushiban or our Twi’lek here. If I didn’t show you the art first, and I told you their heights, what would you assume that meant? The top of their heads? The highest point they reach?

This is also a question for characters like Nautolans, Zabrak, Togruta- some of which are much easier to determine a ‘human’ height standard than others. Do you vary depending upon the species? Do you have a universal standard?

I’m super curious, because whenever I make characters with a questionable height, I’m never really sure what side of the line I want to sit on.
