Convention Prep

Hey! Sigma here with my (ever so late) entry in the CosBlog challenge.

Are you guys ready for this? It's a wild emotional rollercoaster ride, so strap in!

I like to try to prep for a convention at least a few weeks in advance. However life routinely gets in my way and I usually end up partaking in the age old tradition of extreme con crunching.

This is how the room looks while I'm crunching. For Megacon not only did I need to finish a new Org coat but also make a set of gloves and work on a pair of pants.... all in the week before the convention.

This led to me working until midnight on Thursday on all of these things!

First I tackled the coat. I ended up modifying the pattern, and sewing the whole thing in under a week. I actually forgot I needed to make gloves until I had finished the coat. So I started in on those around 1030 PM.

The pattern was very rude and not at all helpful. :triumph:

But after some wrestling and cussing I made it behave and finished the gloves in 30 minutes or so.

And just before I ran out of thread too. :joy: :sob:

By the time I was done It was like 1 AM? And my room was a mess but I was almost done prepping.

The last and most dangerous thing I had to do for my "night before" set up was to set my wig up on a wig head.

There were casualties.

After about four or five hours of sleep I showered (an important daily must for any con goer) and set up my war paint station.

Xaldin is a special boi with special ears. He also has mutton chops, so I needed to grow some ASAP

Or... you know... glue them on with spirit gum.

And lace front wig tape.

Then it's on to convention shinanegans. 🤓🤓🤓

I usually like to go with a group, whether its friends or people I've met on Aminos or at past cons. But sometimes I go by myself.

When you go alone it's important to take lots of pictures, go to lots of s, and compliment all cosplayers you meet.

And most importantly dont forget to get pictures of your own hard work!

If theres a meetup of a fandom you enjoy (even if you're not cosplaying or you are dressed as a character from a different fandom) you should go! You can meet people with similar interests there!

I love going to fan run s and activity s. One of my favorites at Megacon was the "letter to senpai" . I got to make this little gem:

And my favorite part of cosplaying is the end of the day when I get to peel off my costume and prep for the next one!
