Salmon run tip masterlist

This is a collection of tips, tricks and general advice I've picked up from other people and through experience that I want to share with other people!

This post is LONG. there's a table of contents to help divide it up, but the categories given just feel a little too short to be their own dedicated posts. so here's a master list of stuff.

STAYING ALIVE AND AFLOAT

•Communication is important! say "this way!" if you know where a boss is, or if the basket has moved during low tide!

•Ink the floor AND walls during downtime!

and use those walls! If you go up, the common salmonids have to then run around up the ramp to come get you and if you jump down before they reach you they then have to go back around down the ramp. The walls are a quick way to buy yourself more time.

•When you're struggling to stay alive, there is no shame in running away, recharging and coming back stronger. your teammates would rather have a teammate who's alive and safe than a teammate that is dead and surrounded by salmonids.

•If you're the only one alive and the wave timer is low, run! get yourself out of danger!

•Always be on the move. Even if it's just a simple back and forth try not to stand still in one spot. It will make you easy pickings for several bosses.

•If you are the last one alive and you have the ink, throw a bomb towards where your teammates are, even if you go down the run will not end until the bomb explodes (LAST DITCH EFFORT ONLY!)

•Cover other players who are struggling! Especially if they are focusing on one task, make sure they don't get splatted. Even if they are completely useless during a round, it helps no one to have dead teammates, and could cause everyone to fail. If it's easily preventable, prevent it.

•Throwing an egg even a little closer is a big help. Trust your teammates to carry it the rest of the way.

BOSS TIPS

•You can shoot the drizzler's rainstorm bullet out of the sky! You can also shoot the actual boss itself from underneath the umbrella when it's flying overhead

•My favorite recent discovery: Making the Slammin Lid smack down by going into it's field will kill any Salmonids under it; Including bosses! Things like Steelheads are impossible to shoot if they're under the lids, so it's easier to just slam 'em.

•Only one person needs to go up a fish stick, but try to prioritise them because fish sticks create SO MUCH INK

•The sticks that fish sticks leave behind are great sniper perches, but be aware of flyfish and maws, as they can easily splat you if you aren’t paying attention

EVENT TIPS

•When the quota is met during the gushers event, stop opening gushers.

•During the grillers event, if you're locked on by a griller, run away from your team to prevent a wipeout!

•During glowflies, everybody needs to stick together somewhere where there is only one way for salmonids to enter. do not stray from the group!

•Specifically with grillers and glowflies, GET ON THE HIGH GROUND! Climbing a high wall is even better. Give your teammates the max amount of time to attack the things coming after you, and ideally a wide open path to do so.

•If you have killer wail, it’s the best way to take down the mothership when it comes for the egg basket. Next best thing is a splatling, or something else with rapid damage otherwise.

•During mudmouths, stay together, and have one of two people dealing with the salmonids coming out of the mudmouths, then the others can focus on throwing bombs.

•During fog, split into groups of 2! and never leave that group! and keep that communication! if there's a boss, let people know! they cant see it!

WEAPON TIPS

•Whilst chargers and splatlings are expected to be the most responsible for steelheads, be aware that there'll be at least one round where someone isn't doing well. the rotation will always have at least one weapon that someone struggles with so, be aware that you can never rely on any weapon to help how you expect because the person wielding it may not know how.

•If you're a high dps slayer weapon make sure to keep an eye on the anchor/backliner! Theyre usually the first to get overwhelmed, so try to train yourself into checking on them whenever you go by their spot, and if theyre targeted stick near them to help

•Protect your backliners!! Your splatlings and E-liters can kill things for you SUPER EASY but they’re no use if they’re dead. Ferry the eggs and keep the chum off them. If you are a backliner, again, STAY ON THE HIGH GROUND, and let your teammates do the fancy footwork.

KING SALMON TIPS

•At the beginning of the third wave, watch for a slightly distorted jingle. this means that there will be a King Salmon wave.

•During the emergency wave, have 2 or 3 people CONSTANTLY attacking while the last ones kill bosses and other salmonids for golden eggs to use as ammunition. DO NOT STOP ATTACKING! THE KING HEALS!! (Might need a fact check)

•The overlay while waiting for a match shows a salmon king meter, it will slowly fill up (6-8 runs will fill it up completely, probably. I haven't counted this). If it is full that means the next run the king will appear if you make it that far

BUT if your teammate has a full meter, a king salmon will spawn and your meter will get reset.

•Standard bosses can be killed using the gold eggs! every boss only takes 1 egg, and they still give 3 eggs. it's a good trade!

MORALE BOOSTERS!

•Don't get to hung up on always losing or always dying, higher ranks are designed to be overwhelming!

on top of that, dont beat yourself up for silly mistakes that get made, I still regularly fall off the map at high tide or get splatted by common enemies while trying to take down a boss and I wasn't paying attention to my surroundings.

•Booyah!! before the first wave, between rounds, and the end if you all 3 waves. It boosts morale and also is a celebration for ing a wave.

Finally,

•You can deliberately rank down by talking to Mr Grizz. Salmon run IS hard in the higher levels. Its not easy in solo, especially with people still getting carried wholesale into high rank. If you're being made miserable, rank down and keep learning! There's no shame at all in it, whatsoever, and the pay cut doesn't matter since its an even bonus earning no matter the rank.
