Cynthia’s POV:

The next morning the downpour faded, allowing us to start our journey to Redseed. We got a ride from my parents to Xerton as they were heading to work. From the city, we got on the ferry to Redseed so we could see the Professor.

“I still feel like I’m dreaming. We’re actually on the very ferry that represents the start of any journey”

“I know” stated Nova. “I’ve always wanted a pokemon and now I'm getting one”

It was well into the afternoon when we arrived in the small town of Redseed. From the dock we got a bite to eat at the local Cafe before we went to Hemlock’s lab. When stepping in it felt like the place hadn’t been cleaned in months. There were piles of clothes, papers and poke balls scattered everywhere. If I didn’t know this was a lab I would have thought I was in a hoarders house.

“Are you certain we have the right place?!” Nova was disturbed as she looked around.

“I told you I knew where we were going but I’m still surprised at how messy this place is.”

After navigating the filth, we didn’t find the professor so we decided to go looking for her. As we were about to leave, Hemlock ran over covered in dirt with a large leather bag.

“Sorry about not being here girls!” she was clearly tired and probably ran here.

“It’s ok aunty Audrey. We arrived a few minutes ago anyways”

“Wait, aunty?!” Nova looked at me with a look of shock and confusion. I quickly explained that Audrey is my aunt and that I thought I told her that. Even after clearing that up, I could tell she was probably feeling hurt that I’ve known her for this long and never thought to tell her something like this. Thankfully Audrey stopped us from fighting by running inside and coming out with two Pokeballs. She started to explain about the challenge we could choose to complete if we wished to become the region's champion. I told her that we talked about it along the way and that we wanted to try and become the champion but that we wanted to do it together as a team. She said that was fine as most people tended to do double battles here anyways.

With confirming what our plans were and handing her the letters she sent us we finally got our starters. Without any hesitation, I clicked the button and out popped my starter. Like all who get a starter on Malaku, it was a little Eevee.

Of course, it looked at me with interest and I couldn’t help picking them up and snuggling them. I’ve cared for many Pokemon while helping out at the daycare but it’s something else entirely when you hold one that’s yours. They're your little companion to follow you on your journey across the region. I looked over and saw Nova doing the same thing. It was clear that she was cherishing this moment just like I was. It’s clear that our journey was going to be so much more than we first thought.

Nova and Cynthia now have there starters and are ready to start their adventure but Nova now wonders what else Cynthia is hiding.
