This is Nomad! Back with yet another chapter of Cosmo: A Splat Force Story!
He have officially reached the end of the first half of this Spin off series, I hope ya'll enjoy this one!
This chapter is going to be where some of the action starts, hopefully it's going to be a good one for ya!
Alright then, without further ado (I'll use my 4th exclamation mark in a row) let's get into this!
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
C H A P T E R 5 : T H E J O U R N E Y
It was the start of a new day, the birds were chirping away like an opera group, the red skys were gleaming, most of the leaves have fallen off the branches of the trees and have fallen onto the ground, the breeze was chilly. However, none of this was affecting the Splat Force's base, hidden below the lonely shed at the back of Bluegill Town.
The main room was dark and empty, all the weapons were hung up on the stationary and the bar was closed. The only room with sound coming from it was the chambers, which was the sound of snoring. The snoring was so loud that it indirectly woke Alyssa up from her sleep.
Alyssa slowly got up from her bed and climbed out of it, trying not to make a single sound. She was still wearing the now torn black shirt, the same grey skirt and the same torn pair of shoes she had been wearing for the last full day, they were starting to smell. She tiptoed to the other side of the room, luckily for her, the sound of snoring was covering up the sound of her moving.
She eventually got to the door of the chambers and gently placed her hand on the door knob and slowly opened up the door, trying not to wake anyone up. After peeping around the door, which was only slightly open, she finally made it into the main room, slowly shutting the door behind her.
The dark and emptiness of the room was startling her a little, as she was always slightly afraid of the dark as she never knew what could be lurking around. She raised on of her hands as it started to glow, only slightly lighting up the room for her.
She walked towards the bar but immediately realized that it wasn't opened. She then looked towards the door next to it, which lead to the kitchen on the other side. She walked over to it and tried to open it.
"Locked..."
She whispered to herself before looking around her to see if there was any draws that could potentially hold a key.
After looking around for half a minute, she still didn't find anything, no desks, no draws, nothing. This quest for the key started to feel rather hopeless. That was until Alyssa noticed that the door of the Commanders Office was not fully closed. Alyssa knew that neither Rex or Frederick would be happy with her going into the office but it was the only place she hadn't checked and the curiosity was slowly killing her.
She walked into the office and turned on the lonely light on the roof. She already knew that none of the bookcases would be any sort of help whatsoever, because let's face it who would even put their keys in a book?
She looked into each of the cupboards but saw nothing but Splat Force gear, this was presumably what they gave out to new . Alyssa had an idea that this is what they were going to give her soon. She walked over to the desk and saw nothing but scattered files. Normally she would any sort of paper that didn't look remotely interesting but these contained names that really peaked her interest.
Name: Terrador Perch
Age: Unknown
Species: Inkling
Gifts: Geokinesis
Relatives: Unknown
Hair Colour: Light Brown
Weapons: None
Background: Unknown
Threat Level: Critical.
'Ah Terrador...Cod this guy really likes attacking the rich, collateral damage ended up killing Fred's parents...I promised that we would avenge them but at what cost...?'
-Rex Allen
Name: Jordon Lance
Age: 29
Species: Inkling
Gifts: Super Sonic Scream
Relatives: None
Hair Colour: Blond.
Weapons: None
Background: First encountered her robbing a bank, she seems to love getting money for herself, might be due to her jealousy of the rich.
Threat Level: Moderate
'Jamie said that she isn't all that powerful but she can still be deadly, if we plan the right strategy we might end up beating her.'
-Rex Allen
Name: Kamala Sabrina
Age: 32
Species: Inkling
Gifts: Psychokinesis
Relatives: Fiancee (Deceased), One Daughter.
Hair Colour: Deep Purple
Weapons: None
Background: She was a psychiatrist before the meteorite struck and caused the gifted, which also ended up killing her fiancee. Since then she ended up torturing the minds of patients. The Trauma ended up causing the patients to do...let's just say rather disgusting things...
Threat Level: Severe
'Coming straight off this case, it's safe to say that we can't let any of our men get corrupted by her power otherwise what more can we do?'
-Rex Allen
Alyssa felt indifferent about what she had just read. On one hand, she understood that these where necessary for the force to learn about them and find out a solution on how to beat them. But on the other hand, she also felt uncomfortable about knowing that they could presumably have case files on everyone and that they could even have a file of her for all she knows.
"Looking for something?"
Someone called out from the door, which gave Alyssa quite a scare.
"Don't worry I'm not going to tell them about this, I'm not a snitch."
Alyssa quickly calmed down from the sudden fright and looked at the white haired Inkling on the other side of the room.
"You're Henry right? Henry Spence is it?"
She asked, recognising him from when Chester mentioned him last night.
"You are correct! Now what can I help you with?"
Henry asked gently, wondering as to why Alyssa was not only up rather early but also why she was in the Commanders Office.
"I was...Looking for the key to the kitchen. Sorry if this is early because all the snoring woke me up and now I'm starving."
She answered, scratching the back of her head.
"Well you shouldn't have been afraid to wake one of us up. It's only 06:00 we are only half an hour ahead of time before everyone arrives so in a way it's kind of nice to get a head start."
He said to her, assuring her that none of the other in the chambers would've got at her for waking them up.
"Oh wow that's neat...Why are you up early then?"
Alyssa asked him, the tables turned now that Alyssa started asking the questions instead of answering them.
"I heard someone close the door, my body decided to let me stay in bed for a few minutes before getting up, by that I mean that's I couldn't be bothered to move. When I got up and went out I saw light coming from the office, I thought one of the commanders were here but it's just you, and here we are now."
Henry said, finishing his little run down before getting back on topic.
"Anyways, you're in luck right now that I have the key to the kitchen on me right now."
The two of them walked out of the office and entered the main room, which was now lit up thanks to the light being on. Henry put the key into the keyhole and turned it, unlocking the door. As soon as they entered the kitchen, the lights went on, it was brighter then any other room at the moment.
"Well there's fruit, vegetables maybe? Oh! Maybe those spicy wings?"
Henry suggested, hoping to speak any ideas into her mind.
"Rex suggested that I don't eat those wings just incase of any accidents."
Alyssa told him, recalling his words from yesterday afternoon.
"Ah yes, those wings even get to him, which personally shocked the shell out of me but Commander Evans seemed to be alright eating them. Then again he does have a very strong stomach.''
He said, thinking back to when Rex had those wings.
"My stomach isn't strong but isn't really weak either. So at the moment, I'm just not going to...Oh this place has cereal?!"
Alyssa cheered. She hadn't had any for way to long and it was a nice change from simply toast.
"Yeah, this place has cereal, you're free to have some yourself. While you make that, I'm just going to attempt to wake everyone up."
Henry said before walking off to the chambers. He entered the room and started to wake up the sleeping soldiers.
"Folks it's time to wake up! Bit early I know but it's best for us to be up and ready just incase anything big ends up happening."
8 M I N U T E S L A T E R . . .
Each of the were up and eating their breakfast. Chester got himself some toast with butter, Jamie got himself some crumpets with cheese on them, both Barry and Oliver had the same mem cake cereal (definitely in two separate bowls) and Peter just had a sandwich.
By now Alyssa had already finished her cereal but didn't know where to put it.
"Anyone know where to put this?"
She asked, holding her bowl in her hand.
"Just put at on the side at the bar, someone will put it away later."
Peter answered, who at the time was about to put his sandwich plate to the side. Alyssa placed the bowl on the side of the bar and walked over to the table everyone was at and started socialising for awhile.
1 0 M I N U T E S L A T E R . . .
More and more started to enter the base, way earlier then usual.
"What's going on?"
Alyssa asked, wondering if this is normal for this amount of people to be up this early.
"I don't know."
Jamie answered, looking confused.
"It's not normal for all these people to be up this early."
After a few short minutes, both Rex Allen and Frederick Evans walked out of the elevator and both head towards the small stage opposite the elevator. Frederick stood in the middle of the stage, standing infront of the mic.
"I'm sure you all are confused as to what's going on and why you are all leaving so early. That's because we are starting the journey back into the woods."
He said as the room started to be filled up with the sound of talking and whispering.
Quiet please! I know this is all very confusing as to why but...I've been thinking about it alot last night. Rex and his Octoling friend here is right, we can't end the war by killing all of the gifted, we have to end it peacefully. And in order to do that we must go back to the woods and track down the remaining villages and try and bring peace. I guarantee you all that some of them won't go down without a fight, which is why you all need to be on your guard. The journey will be long and tiring which is why many of you will need to pack tents to sleep in. You all would need many, and I mean many packs of food. We won't be able to go back once we are in. Am I clear?!"
"SIR YES SIR!"
The crowd of Inklings called out as they began scattering out all over the place.
"Alyssa!"
Rex called out, he and Frederick walking towards her.
"How was your first night?"
"It was fine, just got woken up by all the snoring which is what I think was the driving force about me and the others in the chambers waking up early."
She answered, basically giving him a small run down about it.
"That's good! Anyway, I know you aren't an official member of the Splat Force but chances are you are coming with us to help stop this war. Is there any nicknames that's you want everyone to call you?"
He asked, wondering if she is wanting a code name.
Alyssa had a short thinking about her nickname, eventually speaking up about it.
"Cosmo."
She answered, which confused both of the commanders a little.
"Cosmo, Really? Why'd you pick that name of all things?"
Frederick asked, tilting his head in utter confusion.
"Well it's a nickname that my mother used to call me and I was little. I know that it's not your typical serious nickname but it's the best I can really come up with."
Alyssa answered, thinking back to her younger self.
"I mean, I like it. If you want them to call you that then, hopefully, the should."
Rex said to her, approving her nickname choice and giving her a thumbs up.
"Alright folks, me, Fred and Cosmo will meet you all outside the forest. Be there by 15 minutes!"
"Wait, Cosmo? Who's that?"
Barry asked, having little to no clue about who he was on about.
"He's talking about me!"
Alyssa said to him giving him a cheeky smile. The three of them walked into the elevator and exited the base.
As soon as the elevator door opened, the three of them walked out of the shed and each looked at the sky.
"Alright, you do know how to super jump right?"
Rex asked, clearly overestimating her.
"Uh.......what?"
She asked, not knowing a single thing about it.
"Ah! The super jump is when you turn into your Squid form, which in your case would be the Octo form. You push onto the ground before leaping up into the air, going over coming what would normally be a long travel in about a minute or two, depending on the journey length."
He explained, he looked at Alyssa's still confused face before turning to Frederick.
"Fred, you wanna show her?"
Frederick nodded before turning into his dark green Squid form. He pushed against the ground for a few seconds taking off into the air.
"Oh! One more thing, here have this!"
Rex said; giving Alyssa a small and flat squared box.
"It's what you'll be wearing for the travel, go behind the shed and get changed into it."
Alyssa ran behind the shed and started to get changed into what was in the box that Rex had given her. After a few minutes she walked out from behind the shed. She was wearing a blue ink bullet proof vest with grey sleeves. The vest included a golden badge with a black squid logo on it. She was also wearing dark grey tros and black boots with blue accents.
"I gotta say Rex, this looks pretty cool!"
Alyssa cheered as she started checking herself out.
"I knew you would say that! And I gotta say something to you Alyssa...Welcome to the Splat Force!"
Rex said with a grin as he gave her a small wink.
"Thank you!"
Alyssa said to him, giving him a playful wink in return.
"Haha! Anyways, it's time we super jump to outside the forest."
Rex said, walking up to her and preparing to enter his squid form. He noticed the Alyssa started to look nervous.
"Hey, I'll be right next to you don't worry! Here, take by hand!"
Rex entered his Squid form and started pushing down. Alyssa turned into her Octo and also started pushing down. They both held onto each other.
"On the count of three we let go...One...Two...Three!"
Rex called out, both he and Alyssa took off into the air, Alyssa managing to hold on to him. During mid jump, Alyssa let go of Rex and went on the rest of the journey still next to him, but jumping on her own.
1 S H O R T M I N U T E L A T E R . . .
Both Rex and Alyssa landed on the stone ground, which was just outside the line of trees.
"About time you two landed, was getting worried. But turns out it was just you getting gear."
Frederick said to them, crossing his arms.
"Yeah, well she couldn't wear that same black shirt every day it's inkin torn!"
Rex explained, backing up his point as to why they were late.
"I guess you got a point."
Frederick whispered before changing the topic.
"How was the super jump for her?"
"It was actually really cool!"
Alyssa said, who had been stupidly smiling for the past minute.
"I had a bit of trouble getting started, Rex even held my hand for the first half of it but once I got used to it I went solo. Quick question, why don't he used these super jumps to get to the villages?"
"Well you see, the woods is a quite place and that any loud sound echoes throughout. One super jump would cause an echo which would indirectly end up alerting anything. You never know what is out there in the woods."
He answered.
"If that's the case then why did Rex fly a jet into the woods?"
She asked him, being immensely confused.
"I don't know, all I know about that is that it was a completely foolish and risky move."
Frederick sighed, turning to Rex.
"It was at night Fred, plus they could've been convinced that it was a plane high in the sky."
Rex explained, poorly defending his reckless actions.
"You're just lucky they didn't go looking for it, or if they did that you and your squad weren't found."
Frederick said with a small frown.
"Look Fred, what's important is that I'm here, and that I know now."
Rex assured him, giving him a pat on the back.
"Well whatever you say."
Frederick sighed, still crossing his arms.
"We must wait until everyone is here then we will go in. It shouldn't really be that long."
5 M I N U T E S L A T E R . . .
Even after 5 minutes nobody had arrived. Rex was leaning up against a tree, Frederick's arms were still crossed and his eyes were closed and Alyssa was just sitting on the ground with her legs crossed. All of a sudden, Barry and Oliver landed infront of them, followed by Jamie and Chester, and then Henry and Peter and then Oscar, after followed by the rest of the force. Everyone was now here. Frederick opened his eyes and walked forward, followed by Rex and Alyssa.
"Thank you all for coming!"
Rex called out to them.
"Before we go in, I'm going need you all to split up! Half of you go to Fred and the other to me and Cosmo. Is that understood?"
"SIR YES SIR!"
The crowd called out, the sound of their coned voices echoed. Henry, Oscar and Peter and many more went to Frederick's side whilst Jamie, Chester Barry and Oliver went with Rex and Alyssa. Many of the rookies went to Frederick's side whilst a few went with Rex and Alyssa, this was so Frederick would have more back up since most of the Majors went to Rex and Alyssa.
"To make things more fair between either of us, I'm going to ask either Barry or Oliver to go with Fred, he only has one Major on his side, it would be great if he could get another."
Rex suggested, turning to Frederick and then nodded.
"You stay with Commander Allen, Ollie. I'll be fine."
Barry said, giving Oliver a small bro hug before walking over to Frederick's group.
"See you on the other side partner!"
Oliver called out whilst waving.
The two groups were no ready to take off into the woods. It was going to be a long journey, but it will be one that they would never forget...The two groups started walking into the woods, each group sticking by it's leader. All they saw was nothing but orange, crunchy leaves and naked trees and the occasional bush. It was a sight they'd have to get used to however, as it was all they were going to see.
3 W E E K S L A T E R . . .
It was a peaceful morning in the woods, the sound of birds singing was truly something that everyone would love to wake up to. The orange leaves and green grass was now covered by thin white snow, it was now approaching the winter seasons.
In the woods was a massive rectangular area which was taken over by a big force of tents. Rex Allen climbed out of his tent, stroking his chin, and realizing that he would need to shave when he returns home.
"Alright everyone it's time to wake up!"
He called out, clapping his hands twice to empathise it. He looked up the tree to see an Octoling slowly waking.
"You too Alyssa!"
Alyssa climbed down the tree steadily, making sure not to miss a branch. She eventually got to the bottom of the tree.
"Morning Rex! We going to make the big move today?"
She asked him, wondering if anymore actions are being taken at the moment.
"Soon, we just need time to get everything all packed up and ready. We only have a few hours till we get there, we're stopping here."
He answered, showing Alyssa the map to the next village. He placed his finger on the cliff side which was just next to the village.
Here is where our next base is, we will camp here and then go to this village, is that understood?"
Alyssa nodded.
Yeah, I understand that.
She answered before going off to the others, who were just getting out their tents.
After a couple of minutes, everyone was out of their tents but none of them were warm.
"Hey Cosmo, could you light the fire please?"
A rookie called out, who was standing next to the campfire shivering.
"On it Phineas!"
She said, walking over to the campfire. She placed both her hands on the pile of sticks and they started to glow, warming up the campfire and starting a fire.
Many other crowded around the fire to stay warm. Many got food from out of their bag and started eating it. Whether it was sandwiches, potatoes or even fish, they eat it all like a group of feral wolves.
"After you've all eaten, we must all pack our things away. Everyone go to the bathroom if needed since this is going to be quite the long journey. Is that understood?"
Rex called out, before taking a bite out of an apple.
"SIR YES SIR!"
The force called out as the continue to feast on their breakfast.
After a few minutes everyone was finished with their breakfast and all started taking down their tents and folding them, putting them into the bags. Chester was carrying a bag full of the legs of each of the tents. Many of the managed to get a quick bathroom break before heading back to the main camp.
Rex was standing infront of the crowd, Alyssa stood behind him to his right.
"All I'm going to say right now is prepare yourself for anything. This day is going to be quite the eventful day. We might lose one or two of you but if that happens please know that your deaths won't be in vain. Anyway, it's about time we get started with the journey."
Rex said before turning around and beginning to walk. The rest of the force followed shortly behind him.
The force walked through the thin snow, hearing not just the crunch of snow but also the crunch of the leaves below the snow.
"How are you feeling Jamie?"
Chester asked, looking at his emotionless friend.
"Oh yeah, yeah I'm good."
Jamie said sighing.
"Just wish I was able to properly say good bye to my wife before going into battle, she and Samantha are probably nervous about me..."
"Buddy, just think about this, you're only 22 years old yet you have already experienced marriage and being a parent. And you've spent the past 11 years with me. You've inspired a lot of us pal. Think of it like this, when you return home you'll have your kids and wife back in your arms."
Chester assured, patting him on the back.
"Thanks Chester, I knew I made a good choice making you my kids Cod Father."
Jamie said to him, feeling a little better after the small conversation.
4 H O U R S , 3 0 M I N U T E S L A T E R . . .
After a long, none stop walk, the force arrived in an open area. The ground was made out of smooth stone, which was a change from the same old grass or leaves, or in this case snow. At the end of this long open area was the side of a step cliff.
"Everyone take a small breather, if you look from the edge of the cliff you can see the village, we aren't far now. We're going to camp here. We'll set up tents and everything else later for now just take a few minutes to just talk about things. Is that clear."
Rex announced to the force.
"SIR YES SIR!"
The force yelled back, maybe a bit too loudly as there was an echo.
Jamie walked over to the edge of the cliff and sat down, looking at the wonderful view. He took out a picture of him and his wife with two children, one was a toddler and the other was a newborn in the photo. Alyssa noticed Jamie's loneliness and decided to give him some company.
"Hey Jamie, you doing okay?"
She asked, sitting next to him.
"Oh hey Aly-Cosmo sorry, haha!"
Jamie said, forgetting her nickname.
"I'm just doing fine, looking at the people who give me hope."
"Who are they?"
Alyssa asked, looking at the photo of him and his family.
"Well this beautiful woman here is Caroline Goldson, or Caroline Stewart, she's my wife. These two kids are my daughters, who are only 4 years apart. The toodler Samantha here was born a week before the meteorite struck and the newborn here was born all the way back in March."
Jamie explained getting teary eyed just thinking about them.
"I think me and Carol agreed to call her Ami. I wonder if she went through with it in the end."
"I think that's a pretty cute name if I'm honest. I'm pretty sure that she would've went with it for such an adorable child."
Alyssa said smiling at the photo.
"Yeah, I just hope that if in the event I go that they would stay strong you know?"
He said, putting the photo back in his pocket and getting back up.
"Listen, your family needs you, they adore you. I promise that by the time this war ends that you will be seeing them again."
Alyssa assured, telling her something similar to what Chester told him earlier.
"Yeah, thanks for that Cosmo. I know Chester said something similar but it's nice to hear that's you know?"
He said as he walked towards the force and began helping set up tents. Alyssa smiled gently, feeling happy that he is feeling more happy.
M E A N W H I L E E L S E W H E R E . . .
Somewhere in the middle of the forest, a long red haired Octoling walked alone, his clothes stained with blood, he had nothing but a pain filled face. He had nowhere to go until...
'SIR YES SIR!'
He heard the echo of a group yelling. He tilted his head to the left of him, as that was where the sound came from. He clenched his fist tight as it starts to light up in flames....
