I was upon both knees sitting in front of a table of candles. My head bowed, and my eyes closed, and I steadied my mind, I spoke the words of my fallen brothers never forgetting them, committing them to memory. Heavy foot steps, 2 pairs walked up behind me, I knew who it was before I looked, and then the voice came. My best friend, my Master &' Commander. Ulrund, he spoke. "Tyrus, We have a Squire that needs a taste of glorious battle." I turned my head slightly, I saw him his name was Forgen, a young boy from a planet that no longer holds life. I that day, we were like angels to him it must be unbelievable now that he is one himself. I stand and turn my body to face them. "Sounds good Ulrund, have the Squire fetch my shield. Grab your weapons and meet me at the thunderhawk. Ulrund nodded, taking the Squire with him, I made my way through the ship and to the landing platform, grabbing my helmet from a serf who had it waiting for me. I took it from him and tucked it under my arm. Minutes later, Ulrund and the Squire marched their way over. The Squire handed me the shield upon it was the skeleton of a long-lost brother, one who I wish was by us once more. Ulrund had his chain sword, and his pistol, The Squire, had a bolter with a chainsword. Standard Loadout. "We will just do a simple combat patrol together bound to run into something down on kodaku." I turned and stepped into the Thunder hawk, the Squire and Ulrund followed. Once the ship lifted off, the Squire spoke. "Chapter Master? Why does your helmet have a crack? Why is your gear so worn?" I didn't answer him, I just ran a hand over the crack that was on the right eye. Ulrund, knowing the real reason, spoke. "Tyrus, he makes a point. We are with our brothers, the Imperium once more, you need to leave that old way behind." I didn't respond. It was worthless. I put the helmet on, and the rest followed. The thunderhawk touched down, and we stepped out, I could see the movement in the tress immediately, and I know Ulrund could as well. The Squire stepped off and onto the ground, his Bolter held ready. We waited till the thunderhawk was gone, and we began our patrol. Ulrund walked beside me his chain sword engine running, but he kept it low. I could see the Squire anxious. He was still new to our way of life. We were waiting for the ambush. Just as planned, they sprung from the leaves, Swords high they charged us. We became surrounded quickly, and I lost track of the Squire. I only knew he was dead by the vital signs in my helmet, and now it was just gonna be a body retrieval if we made it out of this. My power sword cut through the flesh of the bugs, and I could hear the sound of Ulrunds bolt pistol sing its song. Seconds later, his chain sword cut into the meat and flesh of the Monsters that assailed us. It started to become a lot, I would let out a heavy breath between each strike, and now I could hear ulrunds pistol no longer. Back to back, we fought the horde, our swords cutting anything down. Now, it was a matter of whether we lived or died, but we weren't going to die unless we took them all with us.
