It's not that he's slow

You're doing auto run which will obviously slaw down the characters a bit so they can grab rings and Chaos Orbs

And you should try to get pets or trails that can increase the amount of rings you get from collecting them

Ik, it's just that I hate that they don't add stuff that you can do in auto run, like boost, roll, or change directions
