I really want to thank from the bottom of my heart whoever had the idea to introduce this guy.

And you know what? I think I really enjoyed this mini arc in general. The OCs really stepped up, and Jewel had a SA1 Tails moment where she started to grow more confident in her capabilities and trying to live up to them, which prompted Tangle to feel comfortable leaving her to go off on her own.

…What exactly is Starline’s ultimate goal here? It is simple world domination like Eggman? Or does he have an actual point he’s trying to make, a genuine issue with society he is trying to address?

Okay. So Surge is supposed to be based off Sonic’s personality. However, I don’t think it’s supposed to be an exact replica. Or at least, it’s not a copy of Sonic’s portrayal in THIS comic.

She’s leaning a little harder on to that “radical” 90’s tude stuff Sonic was going for in the west back in the older days and maybe in Fleetway. (I haven’t actually read Fleetway.) And it seems the flaws in those portrayals of Sonic are being amplified in Surge…

..:or maybe she just needs to mature, and is acting like your typical, self-absorbed, arrogant and cocky teenager as depicted in cartoon media. Lol

Okay, I can DEFINITELY see how she’s modeled after Sonic. Or at least, 90s western tude Sonic.

However, now that I think of it, the reason we don’t see Sonic’s aversion to authority and being controlled often may simply be that very few people are actively trying to exercise such authority and control over him.

I mean, it’s not like Japan SegaSonic NEVER shows those qualities. It’s kind of displayed subtly in the beginning of SA2 in City Escape. And there was also that moment in Sonic and the Black Knight where he chose to save the child instead of carrying out the task he’d been assigned, spouting very similar dialogue to what’s here.

I will mention however that in those cases he was “defying authority” because he’d been a victim of injustice and so as to go by his own sense of right and wrong respectively, not just because he was being told to not do something he’d find fun.

In any case, Surge is taking these qualities of Sonic we don’t actually see that much and putting them on FULL display.
