A Second Invitation
—::❈::—
When the tour of the rooms that were open to be looked on by guests was complete, Amy was convinced she had never seen anything more magnificent.
She loved every single furniture in the rooms, and delighted in the decorations on the walls.
Her favorite being a picture of baby Rouge stuffing her face with jewels. The pink hedgehog laughed so hard she felt like her stomach was going to kill her.
Killed by a picture of baby Rouge. The thought alone brought back muffled laughter.
Noticing this, Rouge immediately knew Amy had her picture in mind. Although her obsession with shiny luxuries was no secret, eating them was rather... embarrassing.
"Let's go back down to the living room! I've got so many activities I want to do with you!"
The distraction seemed to work, and Amy was once again engrossed in the idea of hanging out with Rouge and Shadow.
"Oh, great!! What exactly do you have planned?"
"Well! I was thinking we could paint each other's nails and brush each other's fur! Oh!! We can even choose our outfits!!"
The white bat seemed to fly higher with every new idea she mentioned, clearly elated by the fact she had someone other than Shadow to spend time with.
"That. Sounds. Amazing," Amy said clasping her hands to Rouge's in a tight hold, and both their eyes practically glowing with excitement.
They talked and laughed all the way down to the living room, where Rouge then started off towards the kitchen to get some snacks.
"I'm gonna go get chips. Do you want anything to drink, hun?"
"Um, water would be nice!"
"Alright," Rouge replied after a short pause she had taken to raise her eyebrow at Amy. Maybe she was used to everyone drinking something other than water?
But Amy wasn't the type to ask anyone of anything in their own home. She replied with a quick "thank you!" and made her way to the couches.
With the tip of her eye she noticed something black and red moving and almost had a mini heart attack.
"Oh my goodness!"
The dark hedgehog looked up from his book and let out a sigh, as every attempt he seemed to have made to ignore them was apparently in vain.
"What is it?"
"Sorry, sorry! You were just so still and I didn't know you were there, so when I saw you move I—"
Here Amy stopped herself as she felt the color return to her cheeks. She liked to say a lot in order to get her point across, but it was awkward when talking to someone who was always so silent.
And always judging.
Of course, Amy didn't know for a fact that Shadow judged everyone, but that was the vibe he gave off.
"Do normal people move around a lot when reading?"
Amy fixed her eyes on his again, and seeing that he was rather unamused, identified his comment as sarcasm.
"Well," she sighed, "at least we look like we're not dead" she said as she crossed her arms, making sure to smile so he knew she only meant it as a playful joke.
He seemed to catch on, and let out a small huff in acknowledgement.
...and then returned to reading again.
—::❈::—
Most of the afternoon was spent up in laughing and eating and playing board games. The girls even managed to convince Shadow to participate in their little dress up activity!
What a sight that was.
They did, of course, have to provide a sort of payment for it, so now they were both entitled to buying him food whenever he’d like, wear any outfit of Shadow’s choosing at any time, and calling Sonic faker when he came back.
Although the punishments were assigned to both of them, the one for fashion* was aimed at Rouge, and the one for Sonic*, at Amy.
Straight to the heart.
He also just wanted food whenever because, although he didn’t need it, he liked how it tasted.
At first they were both very hesitant to agree, but since they probably wouldn’t get another chance like this in a million years, they surrendered.
They made sure to enjoy this, because it had to be worth what they were going to pay later on.
“That’s perfect!” Rouge cackled as she finished placing the last ribbon bow on the black hedgehog’s quills. She moved back to get a better view of it.
Amy, who was tying the strings on his heels, also got up and backed away with a laugh.
“We need to get a picture of this.”
“NO! No pictures” Shadow hissed.
“YES!! That’s such a good idea! I have a camera right here!” The black hedgehog’s glare then turned towards Rouge, and if looks could kill, boi neither of the girls would have gotten this far in life.
“Don’t. You. Dare.”
“Awww, why not?” Laughed the pink hedgehog, clearly straining to keep a straight face.
“We’ll promise not to show anybody else!” She smiled, “right Rouge?”
“O-oh!” The white bat turned around, slightly disappointed she wouldn’t be able to show anyone else such an embarrassing picture of her best friend.
But the more she thought about it, she realized she didn’t need to show anyone else. The only people who’d laugh at her humor were right here, and she reckoned that was all she needed.
They seemed to be the most valuable of all jewels, but of course she’d never it that.*
“Right!” She threw a wink at Amy, which the latter returned with a satisfied smile, “it’ll just be us!”
Shadow was silent.
He thought for a moment about what the consequences of this could be. There weren’t really many, as they had both already seen him like this...
The only pain would be having to look back on this event and dread his existence when they laughed.
“What if we made an album?”
Now both Rouge’s and Shadow’s eyes were fixed on the pink hedgehog.
“We can save all our embarrassing pictures we take together there, so no one will be left out! And whenever we look back, we’ll all be laughing at each other”
That seemed... better?
“You’re a genius, Amy! I love that idea!!”
“...I suppose-“
Amy beamed with joy, and she started brainstorming and putting together scrapbook ideas.
With her creativity, Rouge’s elegance, and Shadow’s cleverness, there was absolutely no doubt this was going to be the best memory album in the history of memory albums.
Rouge went ahead and snapped a picture of Shadow without warning and smiled widely.
“Now that’s a keeper. But you gotta model a bit for me, hun. Strike your best pose”
He looked at the bat with an expression as dead as a rock. Obviously, he was not going to pose.
That didn’t stop Rouge from having her fun, though. She herself was the one posing in attempts to get shots at different angles.
The sight was such an entertainment for Amy. She felt full of energy and emotion when she was around them, and she felt like she never wanted it to end.
After they had chosen the best shots, they taped it to the first page of a random empty book Shadow was keeping in his room.
Amy cut out butterflies and hearts to glue to the cover, and Rouge even brought out some gems and crystals that had fallen off of her previous jewelry.
Shadow scribbled ‘the day they decided to torture me’ on the page where his picture was taped.
“How do you have such good handwriting, what—“
“I know, right?? I thought my handwriting was good, but after seeing his I just can’t compare.” Rouge itted, she meant it as a way to tease Shadow, but there was some genuineness in it.
“Well, maybe if you didn’t spend so much time taking care of your nails” he shrugged with a smirk.
The bat rolled her eyes, and then they lit up. “Our nails!”
It was a great sight to witness Shadow’s smug expression turn into one of regret. He knew what was coming.
Rouge went crazy with all their nails and makeup, and said they just *had* to take a selfie together. Second page of memory album, filled up!
That was going to be easier than they thought.
They played a few board games after, and when the two that weren’t used to wearing makeup started getting uncomfortable, they all washed up and changed their clothes back to normal.
“This was so much fun” Amy laughed as she helped pick up the board game pieces.
“It was, wasn’t it? We should do this more often!” Rouge chimed, throwing her another wink.
After everything was picked up and Amy was ready to say her goodbyes and head out, the sound of thunder struck.
They were all so caught up in each other that none of them noticed it was raining outside.
No, not just raining.
It was pouring.
“Oh, wow! That’s a big storm. The weather channel didn’t say anything about rain today,” Rouge remarked.
To which Shadow replied, “the weather channel never gets anything right.”
“That’s true” Amy ed in, feeling the need to let them know that it was the reason she didn’t think of bringing an umbrella.
“Oh, dear. Well, in any case, Shadow can teleport you home! I’d offer myself, but...” she made reference to her wings by spreading them out.
“You’re good!! I really wouldn’t want to impose on you more than I already have,” Amy laughed, sheepishly scratching the back of her quills.
“Pshh, nonsense! You’re an absolute sweetheart!”
Shadow nodded and shrugged, “I wouldn’t mind.”
Amy smiled widely at the two before her. She never knew Team Dark would ever be so kind to her, and she definitely didn’t expect such a friendship from them.
“Alright! That works, then!”
Shadow was about to hold Amy’s hand to teleport when Rouge stopped him.
“Wait! What if you stayed the night with us?”
Amy stared at her with shock. Not only did they invite her to hangout with them, but now they want her over for a sleepover too?? She had absolutely no words to express how happy she was.
Shadow looked at Rouge, also, rather amused. She had always been crazy to get any female out of the house, and now she was inviting this one to stay for the night?
Rouge’s gaze only darted from hedgehog to hedgehog, with glimmering eyes.
“Would that.. really be okay?” Amy said, almost in a whisper.
“Of course!!”
Shadow shrugged. He didn’t seem to hate her company, which was definitely a good sign.
Amy beamed with a smile, when suddenly she ed she didn’t actually bring anything for a sleepover.
“Ah— but, I didn’t bring any extra clothes or necessities...”
Rouge pondered for a moment, and then snapped her fingers.
“That’s fine! Shadow can teleport you back to your place for you to gather what you need, and then bring you back!”
Amy thought about it, looking up at Shadow carefully in an attempt to read his expression.
He seemed to catch on to what she was trying to do, so he let her know he really had no problem with it. “I’d have to teleport you there either way.”
Amy once again beamed with joy, and Rouge ed in her excitement. Time for a sleepover!!
