Which Characters I should play as in Smash Ultimate

I'm going to a friend's house today to play Smash Ultimate and i was wondering which characters I should play as.

I have no idea if they unlocked any characters in advance. So if you suggest any unlockable characters, keep in mind I might not be able to play as them.
