【Backstory】

TW - Child Abuse

Sherrinford Holmes, the eldest Holmes sibling, was an average child (well, average for a Holmes child anyway) up until the age of 12. For most of his childhood, there were obvious signs of unethical and cruel tendencies, mainly towards other children, but they all came to a head at 13 years old. As if something snapped, Sherrinford became a monster, a young and wicked tyrant. His parents couldn't control him no matter how they tried, and the other children of the house, Mycroft and Sherlock, suffered for it. Eurus was not alive during this time. If you were to define the word dictator, Sherrinford's picture would show up. He demanded respect he had not earned from all he encountered. His word was law, and if you had anything to say about it, you would be punished. His punishments were often ten times worse than what the crime called for. He reached his peak cruelty at age 15 and carried it for the next five years.

Mycroft caught the worst of the abuse. Sherrinford saw the second brother as his runner up and set impossible and unfair standards for him to meet. It was Sherrinford's constant verbal abuse that inspired Sherlock's tendency to mock Mycroft's weight and intelligence from a young age. The physical abuse was debatably the worst part of living under Sherrinford's rule. When Mycroft broke a dish, Sherrinford would berate and shout at him until he broke down. When Mycroft talked back, he'd be locked in his room with no bedsheets and an open window, sleeping in the storms and winter cold. Each punishment grew worse with time, and the eldest even threatened the family with a gun. Finally, Sherrinford one day walked out of the house and never returned. He was twenty. He went off the radar for decades until after the events of season 4. Now, after all this hiding, waiting, secrecy, and his close relations with Moriarty, he's planning to return once again.
