What Eurus did was extremely traumatic to Sherlock. At such a young age too. The brain doesn't know how to process this and, in order to protect itself, the brain rewrites the memories. Sherlock didn't consciously do anything. His brain repressed the truth. It's actually not an uncommon psychological phenomenon. Like what happened to Henry in HOB.
