"It's going to be ok Mateo," cody sat on the bathroom floor with his little dog shaking in his arms.
Most dogs get scared of fireworks and the fourth of July is like a nightmare to them. Cody spent every year in the bathroom with the fan on and music playing so he could help Mateo calm down but it almost never works.
"Shh little pup," cody gave Mateo many pets to comfort him.
"Is he doing better?" Shay peaked in the door.
"Not really," cody looked up at her with a saddened face. Shay came in and sat next to her boys. She placed her hand gently on Mateos fuzzy head and comforted him the best she could.
Shay put her right arm across Cody's shoulders and her left on Mateo. Cody leaned his head against her shoulder as he held Mateo on his lap.
Mateo was shaking in fear of the big booms occurring right outside their house. If only they could do it somewhere else rather than the neighborhood but its not like Cody could do anything about it.
They all stayed there as the night grew darker and the fireworks slowed down.
"You didnt have to stay here with me Shay," cody said softly.
"I didn't have to but I have to help protect our little fuzzy," She smiled down at Mateo.
"You could have been out there though. Instead of sitting here doing nothing," Cody insisted.
"It doesn't feel right without my family," Shay kissed Cody's cheek and rested against him.
They stayed there until there was light outside. Pulling an all nighter was not the plan but the fireworks seemed to never stop.
Cody, Shay, and Mateo spent the whole next day sleeping. They were all cuddled up in bed and slept through the day without the scary fireworks.
