In the peaceful town of Shadowfern Hollow, Wyoming, Tahu stirred awake in his comfortable bed as the first light of dawn streamed through his window. His room in the tribal housing area had simple furniture made from local wood, and his hunting trophies decorated the walls. “Another good day for hunting,” he said to himself, stretching his muscular frame. Before heading out, he walked to the bathroom area to clean up in the wooden tub. The water was still warm from the morning heating, perfect for washing off last night's sleep. “Time to get ready for the seasonal hunt,” he thought, drying himself with a rough towel.

The smell of fresh coffee and fry bread filled the air as Tahu made his way to the tribal council hall. Chief Askuwheteau sat at his desk, going through a list with careful consideration. The old chief looked up as Tahu entered, his weathered face breaking into a smile. “Good morning, Tahu. I have an important task for our seasonal festival preparations. We need fish from the river, wild turkey from the hills, and venison for the feast.” The chief handed Tahu a detailed list on worn paper.” I'll bring in what you need, Chief. I always look forward to the festivals - they remind us who we are.”

Tahu gathered his hunting gear from the storage area: his compound bow with spare arrows, a skinning knife, and a leather pouch for collecting herbs. The morning sun was just breaking over the treeline as he headed toward Hollow's Edge Forest. The forest was dense with pine trees, their needles soft under his moccasined feet. “The spirits will guide my hunt today,” he whispered, touching the spider web tattoos on his arms. He checked his bowstring and made sure his quiver was full of fresh arrows. The morning air was cool and crisp, carrying the smell of pine sap and earth. His tracking skills would be tested today, but that was part of the challenge he loved about hunting.

Inside the sleek Glowgen corporate hangar, three black SUVs pulled up to the waiting private jet. The engines roared to life as Ari, Sugou, and Critter took their seats inside the middle vehicle. “I can't wait to paint this place red,” Ari said with a grin, his hand resting on his concealed weapon. Critter fidgeted with his tablet, his face pale as he looked at the town's layout on the screen. “We should try talking to them first. The Blackthorn tribe might have valuable information,” he suggested nervously. “Pfft, talking is for cowards,” Sugou scoffed, raising his glass of red wine.

The SUVs sped down the highway toward Shadowfern Hollow, their dark tinted windows hiding the occupants from view. “Relax, kid. You'll get used to this,” Ari told Critter, checking the load of his gun. “I've seen what happened to Miller. I'm not sure I want to get used to this,” Critter replied, his voice shaky. Sugou leaned back in his seat, “The boy's right. Miller was weak. We need men who know how to handle these situations,” he said, swirling the wine in his glass. crash A truck suddenly cut them off, forcing the SUV to brake hard. “Looks like someone's in a hurry to get somewhere,” Ari commented with a predatory smile.

Through the windshield, the first buildings of Shadowfern Hollow came into view. “What a quaint little town,” Sugou sneered, taking another sip of his wine. “Perfect place for a massacre,” Ari said, his fingers drumming against his thigh. Critter's hands shook as he checked the satellite feed again. “There's something odd about the town layout. The houses are all facing inward, forming a kind of defensive circle,” he observed. “Even better. Makes it easier to corral them,” Ari replied, his gray eyes narrowing as he studied the town's layout.

A second black SUV pulls up next to them, revealing a squad of heavily armed Glowgen operatives. “Light em up...” Ari commands, but one of the squad shakes his head. “Sorry sir, but we only take orders from Critter. He's our team leader.” Critter's face turns red with anger. “Just do what he says!” he yells. The mortar team quickly sets up their weapon on a small hill overlooking the town. “Yes sir!” The team loads and fires the mortar. boom The first shell lands near the edge of the town, sending up a huge cloud of dirt.

More shells rain down on Shadowfern Hollow. boom boom boom The explosions light up the morning sky. Ari watches with satisfaction as smoke rises from several points in town. “Music to my ears,” Sugou says, raising his glass in a mock toast. “This is wrong, we weren't supposed to do this!” Critter shouts over the explosions. More mortar rounds impact, this time hitting the center of town. Boom “Stop being such a baby,” Ari snaps at Critter.

The mortar team keeps firing, methodically working their way across the town. boom boom boom “Targets three and four destroyed, sir,” the squad leader reports. Fires start spreading through the wooden buildings. “I...I can't watch this anymore,” Critter says, turning away and dry heaving. “Our boy's learning the ropes,” Sugou says with a cruel laugh. Black smoke pours into the morning sky. “Keep going until the whole place is gone,” Ari orders coldly.

After the mortar barrage, Glowgen operatives stormed through the smoking ruins of Shadowfern Hollow. They checked each building systematically - houses, shops, and even the school. bang Gunshots echoed through the streets as they killed anyone who tried to run or fight back. Critter watched from the SUV as Glowgen soldiers dragged bodies into piles. His face showed clear disgust at the slaughter. “Stop this madness, Ari. We came here for information, not mass murder!” he pleaded. But Ari just smiled coldly, enjoying the show.

Chief Askuwheteau walked out from behind a burning building, his face covered in soot but his eyes blazing with anger. “Why are you destroying our home? What have we done to deserve this?” Ari stepped down from the SUV, his Tavor X95 rifle pointing straight at the chief's head. “Alright who's the chief here?” he asked with a cruel smile. “One of your spiders just bit a girl named Yuuki Konno. She's got special powers now because of it.” The chief looked confused. “I don't know who you're talking about. We have no spiders here.”

Critter jumped from the SUV, pushing Ari's gun barrel down. “That's enough! We've done more than enough damage today.” Ari's eyes flashed with anger but he stepped back. “This ain't over yet, old man,” he said to the chief with a cold smile. He got back in the SUV, leaving the chief standing among the ruins. crunch The tires spun in the dirt as the SUV sped away from Shadowfern Hollow, leaving behind a town in ruins and filled with dead bodies.

After the SUVs left, Tahu went hunting in the nearby woods. He tracked a deer through the trees until he heard gunshots and explosions from Shadowfern Hollow. His heart jumped as he realized his home was under attack. He ran back toward town, his feet pounding against the ground. The smell of smoke filled his nose as he got closer. He pushed through the burning debris, searching for his father. Through the black smoke, he spotted Chief Askuwheteau standing near what used to be the town hall. “Father, are you hurt?” Tahu rushed to his father's side. “I'm fine, son. But look at what they've done to our home.”

sirens Emergency vehicles from the Wyoming Police Department and paramedics arrived. The police chief got out of his car, his face white with shock. “I need everyone to stay calm. We're searching for survivors.” He ran toward the school building, while paramedics started checking the bodies. thud The school's door was stuck, but the police chief forced it open. His face went from pale to gray as he found his own child's body. “No... please no...” He stumbled backward, falling to his knees. “We need to get moving, these injuries are too severe...”

The police chief walked over to Chief Askuwheteau and Tahu. Tears streamed down his face. “Sorry for your loss, Chief.” Tahu put a hand on the police chief's shoulder. “It's too late to save anyone else. They're all gone.” The police chief just stared blankly ahead. “Our people are strong. We will rebuild.” The paramedics loaded their vehicles with the wounded, but their faces showed they knew most wouldn't make it. whoosh The wind blew through the smoking ruins, carrying ash and debris across what used to be a peaceful valley.

Through the thick smoke and debris, Tahu turned to face the police chief. “I need to find these men. I won't rest until I track down whoever did this to our people.” The police chief stepped forward, his face stern. “We appreciate your help, but this is now a police matter. We have protocols to follow.” Tahu clenched his fists at his sides. “Chief Askuwheteau, can you describe the man who attacked the town?”

Chief Askuwheteau wiped soot from his face and looked at the police chief. “There was one man who seemed in charge. He had dark hair, spoke with an accent - maybe Israeli. His body language showed military training, ex-special forces maybe. The others followed his orders without question.” He paused, trying to more details. “They mentioned a girl named Yuuki Konno. Said something about a spider bite giving her powers.”

The police chief pulled out a small notebook, writing down every detail. “Did you get any vehicle descriptions? License plates?” Chief Askuwheteau shook his head sadly. “Just black SUVs. But the leader, this Ari - he had a scar on his left cheek.” crackle The sound of burning wood filled the silence. Firefighters worked nearby, trying to contain the spreading flames. The sun climbed higher in the sky, casting harsh light over the devastated town.

“Right, thanks for the info. We'll get these bastards who did this to your people,” the police chief said firmly. He turned and walked away through the smoking ruins. Chief Askuwheteau watched him go, then turned to Tahu. “Son, come with me to my house. We need to talk.” They walked through the devastated streets to what remained of the chief's home. The front of the house was burned but the back still stood. “Follow me to the basement. I have something for you.”

In the basement, the chief opened a safe and pulled out a thick envelope stuffed with cash. “Take this money. Fly to Shinjuku in Tokyo. Find Johnny Ancient Pet Shop. Tell them you need to speak with Yuuki Konno. Find out everything you can about her - it's vital to our people.” Tahu nodded seriously. “I understand, father. I'll find her and bring back answers.” He gathered his things - phone, earbuds, basic supplies for travel. The weight of this new mission sat heavy on his shoulders as he prepared to leave his burning home behind.

Tahu caught a taxi to the airport. The drive gave him time to think about what lay ahead. “How long does it take to get to Tokyo from here?” he asked the driver. “About fifteen hours if you catch the next direct flight. You'll land at Narita Airport.” He checked his phone for flights, finding a departure in two hours. The sun was setting over the mountains as he boarded the plane. Through the window, he could see the smoke from Shadowfern Hollow rising into the darkening sky. He pulled out his phone to look up the pet shop in Shinjuku, already planning his first steps in this foreign city.
