Mini car with braking system

So i want to build a mini car that would only use gravity to move forward. That car will have to go down a hill and stop at a specific line a few centimeters after the hill. It will need a braking system. I was thinking about rolling a thread around a plastic coil and attaching it to the axle so the wheels stop rolling when the thread will be all rolled up around the axle. Any other suggestions?

The car has to be less than 50 × 50 × 50 cm.

Is the line going to be made of anything special? Because if the line is something that another material can stick to immediately (I have something in my head but don’t have the name) then you could put that on the wheels so that it would stop because of the line, not just at the line.
