~APPEARANCES~

Alani has long thick firery orange colored hair that she almost always wears in a loose pony tail. This is complimented by her emerald gren eyes and fair skin tone and light facial features that while beautiful are usually set in a border line bored expression though Alani is no stranger to smiling. For clothing Alani usually wears a ebony shaded black checkered jacket, the squares being an ashy gray. Along with this she wears a burnt orange scarf around her neck constantly akong with a pair of fingerless gloves colored the same shade of orange as the scarf. To compliment this she wears a forest green skirt with dark leggings that are a faded orange at the top and fade into ebony black as they go lower to her feet which are covered by a pair of worn, dark black combat boots. To finish her outfit Alani wears her weapon in its concealed camera form on a black cord with ornate orange designs around her neck at all times. On occasion she will switch up her outfit for other kinds of jackets, jeans, hoodies and various other kinds of punk inspired clothing. When it comes to accessories or make up Alani usually goes the minimalist route udually only wearing her camera around her neck or on occasion small accessories such as small ear rings, bracelets or necklaces, though if she did theyd almost definitely be on the more subtle side. The same applies to make up given she only wears very basic amounts of it as foundation and she rarely ever goes beyond that as she finds it annoying to apply to much of it.

~PERSONALITY~

"I may seem cold and stoic to you but that's only because I've had a life to make me that way. However that doesn't mean it was all bad."

Out of combat Alani is stoic, serious and reserved. She won't really speak unless its someone she's close to and some what trusts. She has a tendency of appearing stand offish but is actually fairly nice once you get to know her the only problem being she is extremely untrsusting and secretive. The only person she truly opens up to is Roy due to how long they've known eachother. That and given the life she had up until meeting Roy had been some what treacherous and all but trained her to be untrusting but thankfully she grew out of this somewhat and unwilling to let others in. Besides this Alani is also very observant and has a keen eye for detail in whatever it is she is doing and always keeps an eye on what's happening around her. Not to mention that Alani has a very high sense of justice due to past events in her life and will whatever it takes to achieve what she views to be the just thing to do.

In a fight Alani acts much the same as she does normally only she's much colder and more calculating. Analyzing her opponents and targeting their weaknesses to systematically take then down and out.

~CHILDHOOD~

"YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE ME!"

Alani was born in Mistral to two middle class faunus parents that were investigative journalists that advocated equal rights between faunus and humans. Because of their faunus traits, beliefs and the nature of their job Alani's parents had many enemies from all classes in the kingdom. One day when Alani was 4, after happening upon a scandal of a council member Alani's parents luck ran out. Because they refused to back down from publishing the story the Council member hired a dirty Huntsman to silence Alani's parents and destroy their home to make it look like the work of a burglar. The only person that knew the truth was Alani because her parents hid her in a closet the entire time the huntsman were there. After destroying their house and killing her parents Alani tried to go to the police but she was immediately dismissed as she was both a child and because her story sounded implausible when it made more sense to the police that it was a robbery gone wrong. And so Alani was left alone in a orphanage of Mistral, the only thing she had left of her parents being their first camera they ever got, though broken beyond repair. In order to try and make some scraps of money she would go to a local park and jump out at by ers with her faunus claws out. The idea was to scare them into dropping any food or valuables they had on hand so she could take them and either eat or sell them. One day however she tried this on a boy her age instead of the usual jump or scare she was used to the boy just looked at her like she was stupid. However they surprisingly hit it off from there and spent every day at that park playing and hanging out together. It was the first time in a year since her parents death that she felt happy. As such when she found out Roy's parents were moving from Mistral to Atlas Alani was heartbroken. But that changed when she found out that Roy's parents had filed papers necessary to adopt her and take her with them as their new daughter.

~TEENAGE~

"I've learned and grown much more from the scared little girl i was. My eyes have been opened and i owe it to one person."

Growing up with Roy and his family was... interesting to say the least for young Alani. While Roy's parents were good to her given they adopted, housed, fed, and pages for any and all her needs that was really all they did. They provided everything of value to her but couldn't give her that... familial bond that many kids in her situation would want. Though thus didn't really bother Alani too much as they were still kind people just not very personable, besides that's what she had Roy for. As they grew up and moved around Alani was practically attached to Roy by the hip. If he went to school so did she. If he decided to go somewhere with his quote unquote friends then so did she. If he somehow got in trouble then so did she. They were constantly together and while this somewhat limited her ability to make relationships with other kids this wasn't a big deal to Alani given they moved around a lot anyway. Through her constant sticking with Roy Alani picked up several habits and ideals he held. Such as keen observation and how he felt the world should be. Though here is where Alani actually took a slightly different path than her best friend, especially when it came to when they attended signal and why they wanted to be hunters. See while Roy believed the world was corrupt and needed to be fixed she had a more personal reason. She still ed how her parents were murdered, and how nothing was done to stop it. And how much she hated that the men that did so had gotten away with it. This event more than anything else in her life shaped her desire to become a huntress. As she vowed that when she graduated not only would she never allow injustice like that to thrive while it was in her power to stop it, but that she would eventually find the ones responsible for her parents murder and exact justice on them.

Alani's time in signal is actually where she developed many differences from Roy actually as where Roy tended to shy away from combat Alani felt at home in it. She found that she had a affinity for guns and smaller swords, using them in conjunction with each other especially. Here is where Alani made her own unique weapon, or weapons depending on how you look at it. As one day when trying to decide what weapon to use Alani knew she wanted something that suited her strengths while also holding some meaning and personal value unlike Roy's weapons which she felt were somewhat disposable. So one day when looking at the broken camera her parents left her thar she never threw away Alani got an idea and took the wrecked camera with her to school and immediately set out to upgrade, modify and rebuild the camera into her weapon. While still unusable as a camera it now had the functionality of an amazing hidden dual weapon that Alani would genuinely love. After their training at Signal was almost over Alani and Roy were preparing to go to Beacon only for the legendary school to completely fall to the grimm. Shocked by this tragedy Alani knew along with Roy that they couldn't sit around and wait for the school to reopen nor that she would go back to Atlas. So when Roy announced he was going to attend Shade academy in Vacuo Alani immediately asked Roy's parents to attend with him which they readily agreed to and thus we find Alani now at Shade with her childhood best friend Roy about to attend Shade.

~WEAPONS~

"This weapon represents the last remnants of my family. Now they will judge you."

Alani's weapon(s) was forged from the remnants of her parents destroyed camera, as such it does not actually function as a real camera. The reason she chose to use this as her weapon was because she wanted to find a way to use the destroyed camera her parents left her and the opportunity to make it a weapon, to in a way, be taking her parents spirits with her into battle seemed too good to up. The weapon itself is a orange and green camera that splits down the middle and unfolds into a collapsible tactical sword and a pistol. The lens of the camera even becoming a scope for the gun.

~SEMBLANCE~

"Every force you make has a echo. Your own energy will be your undoing."

Alani's semblance is known as Penance. It allows her to absorb energy from attacks she is hit with and channel that energy into a medium such as her weapons, or if she's desperate her claws, for a powerful energy based attack. However the power, size and type of energy she throws back at her opponet is dependent on the type and power of attacks she's physically hit with. For example if Alani was hit by multiple fire dust attacks the type of energy she channels would be hot and burn like flames. However if she were hit by multiple ice dust attacks the energy would be colder and even be able to freeze opponets. Purely physical attacks result in a pure kinetic energy being used and so on and so forth. The type of attack will also vary depending on what medium she uses. Since her usual medium is either her sword or gun the attack will be either a powerful energy slash from her sword, or a concentrated beam from her gun. When used from her claws the attack will essentially power them up and make them able to do far more damage than they normally could as well as creating a shockwace upon impact with whatever it is she hits with them. However it is important to know that the increased damage they do is still dependant on how much damage she took, not to mention that due to the out put of energy through a singular part of her body could potentially cause an extreme amount of pain ranging from reddning of the skin and numbness in ber hands at best to completely shattering the bones in her hands. Because of this Alani only ever uses her claws as a focus pont for her semblance as a absolute last resort. Finally the main drawback for this semblance is that in order for Alani to absorb any energy from attacks she has to actually be hit with said attack. This means that to use her semblance she has to take damage to her aura from enemy attacks, not to mention she has to use an additonal 10 percent of her aura to channel the energy she took into her weapons. From there however it's merely a matter of slashing and or shooting to set the attack off.

Semblance Backstory

While still living in Atlas, Roy and Alani found an "adventure land" of sorts, one that looked like a huge amusement park. Alani was extremely hesitant to go in though having heard rumors about places that looked fun but turned out to be traps for something called a semblance whatever that was. (She's a little street kid at this point she dont know some stuff). However Roy was full of confidence that eased her bad feeling and he dragged her in by the hand to enjoy the park for all that it was worth. And ittedly she had a lot to fun doing the many activities there were to find in the park. Ring tosses, Ball throws, all sorts of sports games such as dodgeball and even parkour, Alani had even found a stength test which she surprisingly won. Just as Alani was believing the park was truly about fun it was towards the end when they were separated into different rooms by the ones running the park that it was revealed Alani's bad feeling was well founded. Stuck in a room with a handful of other kids Alani was faced with a multi armed robot and a armored man at the other end of the room with a large gun blocking the only exit. They were all told that they were to destroy the robot and if they couldn't or if they tried to escape they'd be killed. As evidenced when one boy foolishly dashed at the door and was shot down mercilessly. Apparently this was a test to try and forcefully unlock strength or power based smeboences any of them might have though at the time Alani didn't know this. In fact all she knew was that she needed to get out of here and find Roy as soon as possible. However this was easier said than done as whenever Alani got anywhere near the bot with her claws out to shred it the multi armed bastard would knock her away into a wall painfully. At this point in time Alani wasn't like Roy at all. She wasn't as smart or as clever as he was. She couldn't figure out how to beat this thing on her own. She couldn't do anything on her own. She couldn't even help her parents or bring their killers to justice so how can she beat something like this all on her own? And it was here that Alani had an epifany. She would prove herself wrong and she'd do this on her own. She would beat this damn machine that had already claimed the lives of half the children that were locked here with her. She would escape these bastards clutches. And she would get justice for her family. In a sudden rush of power her claws glowed with orange and green aura as her semblance activated and it was as if all the damage she had taken from the robots beating was suddenly at her finger tips. Literally. The kinetic energy she from the robots attacks had soemhwo been stored in her aura and was now being channeled through her claws making them glow with power. Running forward Alani thrusted her clawed hand at the robot with everything she had, the powered up claws tearing through the metal like hot knives through butter. Not only that but the sheer excess of power from her semblance attack that was released actually created a shockwave that sent the robots remains flying forward with enough force to crash into the armed guard and through the door that locked them in. Running outside Alani met up with Roy and together the two escaped from the mad adventure land.

~BATTLE STYLE~

"In a fight it's all about efficiency and speed. So stand aside unless you wish to be cut down as well."

~WITHOUT WEAPONS~

Without her weapons Alani is still able to hold her own with basic hand to hand combat. However she is far from an expert and is only able to handle opponets who are her level or weaker than her in of hand to hand combat

~WITHOUT SEMBLANCE~

Generally Alani without her semblance at her disposal fights mostly the same but she will try and focus more on evading and countering attacks than she normally would.

~WITH WEAPONS~

With her weapons Alani fights in mostly mid range, using her sword and natural speed to strike vital or weak areas on her opponent while using her pistol as a means of picking off enemies at a long distance while also keep other enemies at bay.

~WEAKNESSES~

The obvious weakness of Alani's semblance is that Alani has to take damage for it work thus depleting her aura significantly in order to gain enough energy for a decently powerful attack. The other weakness is that she has to have a physical object to use as a medium in order to channel the energy through.

Roy is Alani's best friend adopted brother and secret crush. He's also the only person that she fully trusts in and she will always help him to the best of her abilities.

"It's hard to earn my trust but once you do you'll have a permanent friend with you through hard times and good times. Just don't expect me to be all soft and mushy."
