On April 12, 2025, it was announced that Viz Media had won up to $26 million dollars in damages in a lawsuit over copyright and trademark infringement for the show RWBY.
Of the details publicly provided, the lawsuit seems to have targetted those who created and sold counterfeit RWBY merchandise on sites such as Amazon and Temu. Such sellers had their shops shut down.

It sounds a lot more promising than it looks. Most if not all of these defendants are from China. China is a Mecca of bootlegging properties because their government doesn’t really care about rounding up the criminals to pay over seas entities their winnings. So they have up to 26 million in damages, but who knows how many if any of these criminals will ever be made to pay a cent if it. If they could get away with doing this to Disney… I doubt that Viz is going to fair much better.
