The Skeksis, cruel and cunning rulers of Thra, have corrupted the Crystal, twisting its power to serve their own desires. As their influence spreads, the world begins to wither, and the ancient harmony of Thra teeters on the edge of ruin.

The Gelfling Clans

Gelfling are the dominant race of Thra, deeply connected to the land and the Crystal of Truth. They once thrived in harmony with nature, their lives guided by the Song of Thra and the wisdom of their ancestors. Before the rule of the Skeksis, they lived in great numbers, divided into seven distinct clans, each with its own customs, strengths, and way of life.

Some made their homes in the towering trees of the Deep Forest, while others soared on great wings across the open skies. Some dwelled near shimmering lakes, weaving songs into the water, while others roamed the wild plains, their spirits as free as the wind. Though different in many ways, all Gelfling shared a deep bond with Thra—one that the Skeksis would soon seek to break.

Vapra Clan – The Skyborn Nobility

The Vapra are elegant, wise, and regal, standing as the natural leaders of the Gelfling. Their Queen rules over all clans, guiding them with wisdom and diplomacy.

Known for their pale skin and striking white or silver hair, the Vapra share a deep connection to the wind and sky. Their presence carries an air of grace, and their movements are as fluid as the breeze that surrounds their homeland.

They reside in Ha’rar, a magnificent city perched on icy cliffs above the Silver Sea. From this high vantage point, they watch over Thra, their rule as steady as the mountain upon which they dwell.

Though physically delicate compared to other clans, the Vapra wield immense political influence. They are master diplomats, shaping the fate of Gelfling society through wisdom, strategy, and careful negotiation.

Drenchen Clan – The Warriors of the Swamp

Strong, agile, and fiercely independent, the Drenchen thrive in the marshes and wetlands of Thra. Their way of life is shaped by the shifting waters and dense vegetation that surround them, making them resilient and resourceful.

The Sifan are seafaring Gelfling, living along Thra’s coastlines and scattered islands. Their lives are shaped by the ocean’s rhythm, and they are as restless and free as the waves they sail upon.

Grottan Clan – The Hidden Ones

The Skeksis – The Tyrants of Thra

The Skeksis are the self-proclaimed rulers of Thra, twisted, decayed beings who have corrupted the land with their cruel reign. Through the Dark Crystal, they steal the essence of Gelfling, using its power to unnaturally extend their lives while draining the vitality from the world around them.

Each Skeksis embodies a particular vice—greed, gluttony, deceit, and others—making them embodiments of corruption and selfishness. Their actions are driven by their insatiable desires, and they manipulate others to maintain their control over Thra.

The Mystics (urRu) – The Keepers of Balance

The urRu, or Mystics, are the peaceful counterparts to the Skeksis. Each Skeksis is paired with an urRu twin, and the fate of one is linked to the other—when one dies, so does the twin. The Mystics are beings of wisdom, embodying calm and balance in a world consumed by chaos.

The Mystics dwell in the Valley of the Stones, a serene and sacred place where they practice ancient arts and commune with the natural world. They sing to the stars and the wind, offering guidance to lost souls and maintaining the spiritual harmony of Thra.

Garthim – The Terrifying Soldiers

Nebrie – The Amphibious Farmed Creatures

Nebrie are amphibious creatures that inhabit the swamps of Thra, perfectly adapted to both land and water. With their sleek, slippery bodies and webbed feet, they move effortlessly through their marshy homes.

Often farmed by the Gelfling, Nebrie are used as a source of food due to their hardy nature and abundance in the swamps. Though primarily raised for sustenance, they are an important part of the local ecosystem, contributing to the balance of Thra’s wetlands.
