Species Name

Humans and other species have named this species as Photophages, despite the fact that the Photophages themselves use no formal name to define their own species.

Name Defintion

The name "Photophage" comes from the Greek words "Photo" (Light) and "Phage" (Eater). This actually defines very well the main traits of this species.

Diet

They do something very similar to photosynthesis to survive, but the only thing they need is light. No oxygen or water is needed for them to survive, only light.

Intelligence

They have an intelligence level similar to a human, just slightly more intelligent usually.

Dominant gender

Since genders do not exist in their culture or biology (They have no reproductive apparatus, since they mostly replicate via mitosis), there is no dominant gender. However, they might adopt a gender when adapting to other cultures.

Information

Almost no information is known by humans about them, since they come from a planet very far away from Earth. However, it is known they are very friendly, curious and adaptative towards other societies and cultures outside their planet.

Population

Their population inside their own home planet is of around 100 million, which is nothing much compared to modern human demographics (7 billion humans are 70 times more people than the entire population of Photophages). Their relatively low population is due to the very harsh conditions and violence amongst themselves, but they have potential to thrive extremely well outside their own planet.

Planet

They live in a planet known to them as Yidnaninso "Celestial Evil", it is a planet extremely far away to the closest star and Photophages are the only surviving form of life in that planet. It's a completely dark and isolated wasteland, with extreme conditions that made Phatophages evolve to what they currently are. It's similar to the Moon or, more accurately, Pluto.

Terrain

Their native planet is literally a barren wasteland with almost no light in which a civilization was built in order to flee from it.

Climate

Their home planet has freezing temperatures which would kill any non-adapted species pretty fast. Any climate with enough light to maintain their body functions is more than enough for them.

Predators

Only themselves. They are a very violent species among each other in order to survive the extreme conditions of their home planet.

Appearance

Their only defining feature is their core orb, which is basically their brain. This core is their only real organ and it does all their life functions, only needing light for survival. Since they are always shapeshifting outside their core (Shapeshifting is usually used as a barrier protect their core from enemies, as well as to defend or attack against others), they almost always place their core in the area where the brain is supposed to be, or alternatively in the center of their body.

Life span

In their home planet, almost every single one of them either die as a result of violence for survival or because of lack of light. Because of this, very few get to live for more than 20 years. However, outside of their planet they can thrive and reach their actual natural age of death, which is around 500 years old.

Strengths

They only need light to survive, and the only part of their body that can be damaged in order to kill them is their core.

Weaknesses

They are very violent towards each other in their own home planet, and they rarely trust each other due to fear. However, they highly regard other species.

Relationships

They understand and are able to enter romantic relationships, but in a world of survival like their home planet, this is very uncommon.

Abilities

-Their entire body is fabricated and made entirely of a synthetic material composed of light, except for an small blue orb located inside their fabricated skull, which is the core of their being and can be damaged. So, they can also shapeshift their body with this.

-They can easily regenerate any part of their body (except for their core) by absorbing light to repair the damaged area. In abundance of light, only hitting their core will hurt or kill them.

-They can generate a synthetic and solid version of light which can be used as a weapon, for example, they can turn this material into a sword.

-They need constant light flowing to their body in order to do all of the habilities above. If there is not enough light in the area, their habilities are weakened in accordance to the amount of light they can afford to use.

-They can only be hurt or killed by damaging their core or by a total absence of light.
