So, as you can see on the message, Subspace would act that way to avoid negative thoughts, some of those thoughts could be:

— The conflict with Medkit.

— The fear of being sent to Banland.

— The rot.

— The pain of the rot.

— Not knowing when he will die (due to the rot).

— The rivalry that he has with Coil, which it can lead to important problems to Subspace.

Even if it's not mentioned by the devs at all, you can guess by reading at their interactions.
