It was that time of year, a time when I currently hide in a hole of loneliness for 24 hours, while many couples went buzzing around with each other and make love notes. As for me, I hid.
It wasn't like I wanted to see all that mushy stuff, but I did want to spend time with someone who loved me too. But being here meant great desperation from other students, some fake love being spread. I was scared of that fake love, scared of feeling love for someone, only to have it torn from me after a few moments of bliss.
I walked through the halls, looking at all the valentine posters that d many sweet gifts for your significant other. I smiled at myself, dreaming of getting a gift from someone that I loved. But that was impossible, for they were hiding too.
As Valentine's day moved on, many males courted the blushing females of the school. I dipped and hid from all the searching eyes, keeping my profile low as I visited one of the stands with a few credits in my hand.
"Hello (y/n)!" A small lizard cheered from behind the stand. His emerald green eyes stared at me as he spoke, fidgeting with his claws as nervousness spread through him. "Have you come to send your valentine something?"
"I have actually, but mostly for friends." I say with a smile. His eyes light up as he spots someone behind me, and I smirk as I glanced at another lizard, his bright orange scales shining like a light. His golden yellow eyes spotted the green lizard and rushed over to him, waiting behind me as I have the green lizard some credits for the Valentine's gift.
I grabbed a form to fill out everyone's name, starting with Aru Kim. I gave the male lizard enough credits to give everyone on my list a huge box of treats, and knowing Aru and her melon buns, I checked off many of the boxes and stuffed lots of melon buns in the box, watching as the orange lizard before took my paper for Aru and began gently placing pleny of melon buns of different colors in the box, cutting a few of the caramelized chocolates in between. Once he finished, he took my handwritten note and gently put it on top of the food and closed the box, wrapping the gift in a beautiful cloth with heard designs all over it. One box of gifts down, six more to go.

After getting a gift for Sehui, Mari, Sua, Aru, Gang Ho, and the newer kid, Dante, I had only one more gift to make. Ember, the orange lizard was grinning as he watched me make a hard decision.
"You really sure you don't know what to do for this one? We have lots to gifts for 'special' people." The lizard said with a hum. He had been taking glanced at the green lizard, who he said was Jake, and when I realized that the two were lovers, I giggled when I saw the blush on poor Embers face. "I mean, you don't have to get him a gift here, you can always make him a gift."
"How did you know it was a he?" I asked with embarrassment. He pointed to my face and it occurred to me that I was was blushing hard. I patted my face and turned away, leaving the blank sheet untouched.
"You know what, I may just listen to you. After all, a true gift comes from the heart."
"So you're going to confess?!" He asked with a squeal.
"No! Hel no! You know I don't have the courage to pick him something for a holiday, let alone say anything about my feelings!" I confessed, stopping anything from spilling out of my mouth, I covered it, squeaking into my hands. I froze, just staring at Ember as he continued to fill up the sixth box. When he was done, he put it on a rack and stared back at me. I turned, walking away stiffly as I walked to one of the events.
Pocky sticks.
Oh gosh I've never want to try that.
I scampered away from that event, making myself scarce once again. I wasn't paying attention to where I was looking, and overall bumped into two people.
"(y/n)? Are you OK?" Aru asked me with a giggle. Mook was standing beside her, extending a hand to me. I greatly took it and felt myself be lifted off the ground, and back onto my feet. I dusted myself off, smiling to Aru and Mook.
"Yeah, just trying to stay away from the pocky stick area, it's a toxic environment." I joked, looking back nervously to the growing crowd. I looked back to Aru, who had a mischievous grin on her face.
"Well actually, me and Mook were just about to head over there, would you like to us? Lunch on me if you want." Aru was a smart girl, using our friendship to pull me into the game, AND food?! There was no way to resist this.
Following the two to the arena, we watched the competitions between couples intensify, each time the pocky stick broke, and another couple took their place. Aru was trying to get closer to the front of the crowd, getting us closer and closer to the front, also meant a higher chance at getting picked randomly from the game host. The game host was Jun, the third year who always helped other students, and Aru was head over heels for him. I let out a sigh as another stick broke, but my eyes widened a the game host called out two more names.
"Mari and Waxy! Please step up on stage!" Jun asked, giving Aru a wink. The girl flushed, and I figured that she and Jun had made a deal to put the two unsuspecting children on stage. Both Mari and Waxy were blushing as they sat down, face to face and avoiding eye . I laughed at Mari, never before had she seemed so vulnerable. "I will give Waxy the pocky stick, whoever breaks the stick loses, and the winner gets to choose a pack of sticks to take home. If neither party breaks the stick and completes the game, they can choose the next competitors."
Waxy put the milk chocolate stick in his mouth, Mari taking the other end in her mouth with a blush so bright it almost matched her hair. The two began to nibble, and the closer the two got, the louder the crowd got. When the two lip's met, the crowd began to scream, for once in the competition, someone had actually managed to complete the challenge. Aru's hands flew to her camera and took multiple photos, one for each of her friends. The flame on Waxy's head was growing brighter, and as Mari ate the last of the pocky stick, her eyes landed on me.
"Now Mari, Waxy, who do you wish to choose for the next roun-" Jun didn't have time to finish before Mari screamed her anwser.
"MOOK AND (Y/N)!!" She screamed. I cursed quietly, trying to sink back into the crowd before anyone saw me, but Mook's hand was grasping my arm before I had a chance to get away.
"Well, that is unexpected. Can i have Mook and (Y/N) please come up on stage please!" Jun said with a cheery tone. My heart was in my ears, pounding in my head as i stepped on stage. I sat across from Mook, the shy boy keeping his eyes off me and studying the ground. Aru had her camera ready, already taking many pictures to save for later. Jun handed Mook the pocky stick, Mook pointing the chocolate end to me. I took the biscuit in my mouth, looking at Mook.
His sea blue eyes were looking at me with ion, his eyes looking dead into my soul. I blushed a bit, but began to nibble away at the stick as Jun finished the count down. At each bite, i could feel Mook coming closer, his eyes never leaving mine. My mind was a mess, questions raising in my mind as I got closer to him. Did I really like him? More than just a friend? Hell yeah I did.
My thoughts fuled me to nibble faster on the stick, Mook's body heat emanating from him and seeping into me. He was now blushing, and our lips were only a hair lengths away. When our lips touched, the flash of Aru's camera went off, and I broke the stick in surprise. The crowd went wild with frustration, so close to seeing another victory, only to have it be broken by my flinching.
"Ah-I'm so sorry." I said embarrassed. I walked off the stage and behind the event, where I sat facing the sunset. I took deep breaths, disappointed that I didn't finish the challenge. I didn't look over when I felt a presence sit beside me, his warmth still seeping into me.
"Did you stop because you were uncomfortable?' Mook asked me. I shook my head, not wanting him to guess too much. "Do you not like me?"

"No." I said simply, my courage building. I shifted on my knees, prepared to strike.
"Oh, I see I'm-" I cut the boy off with a kiss, a kiss that told him all my feelings for him. When I broke the kiss, I said breathlessly to him. "No Mook, I love you. Happy Valentines day."
Mook smiled, his arm snaking around me for one more kiss. His hands tangled in my hair and I smiled, putting my hands on his chest. After a few more breathless seconds, I broke the kiss once more and snuggling up to him, watching the fireworks light up the dark sky. This was the best Valentines day ever.
