MY THOUGHTS ON RODEO
Rodeo is such a unique music experience, it just takes you everywhere. It’s a mixture of confusion and everything else, but it works so well. Travis tackles on his come up on tracks like, “Oh My Dis Side”, “90210”, “I Can Tell”, “Pray 4 Love”, and talks about the dark times of his life on, “Oh My Dis Side”, and “Impossible”. And of course turn up tracks like “3500” and “Antidote”. This album starts with T.I. with this narrative that Travis moving to a planet called, “Fuck Dis Shit” after he apparently refused to comply to the ways of authorities. Then Travis comes in with some nice and aggressive vocals on one of the hardest intros I’ve ever heard (Pornography). Then great storytelling on “90210” where he talks about a lost pornstar girl, then connects that how he changed his ways from before he had success and now with his career. I could go on and on about this great piece of art, but the only thing I could take away from this album was that some tracks I could do without like, “Flying High” is just a throwaway, that is just unnecessary and not so good song with the weak production and Travis delivery on here was weak to me. “Nightcrawler” was too long with that loud anxious production going on, It felt like the chorus came like 5,000 times and it was kind of irritating but at least it was worth the wait because King Sosa handled this song. Even though “Impossible” was a personal song for Travis the song doesn’t really do anything for me, it felt like the song just stayed there and didn’t take off. But despite the flaws this album is great and one of my favorites, imo I don’t think Travis can ever top this but hopefully he proves me wrong.
