Destroy Lonely - If Looks Could Kill [REVIEW]

Oh boy, Cartier is gonna kill me for this one…

Destroy Lonely is one of the several signees to Playboi Carti’s label, Opium and has one of those to follow the rage sound that Carti has popularized mainly with his 2020 highly anticipated "Whole Lotta Red." This isn’t the first we heard of Lonely this time as he released "NOSTYLIST," a tape I thought was alright, but was bloated, but with Lonely’s album over here, this is the same issue as his tape, but even more so bloated.

"If Looks Could Kill" has more tracks at 25 this time as opposed to "NOSTYLIST" with 18 and both of them have a bonus track, but on top of this, there seem to be less highlight moments. I did enjoy the catchiness of the first couple of tracks along with even the more mellow-sounding "safety" interlude and "moment of silence" while also being nice with higher tempo flows like "raver," but that’s about it out of 25 tracks. The rest is just average rage and the fact this goes on for such a long stretch of tracks really weakens the listening experience of the album.

I’m not saying this is a bad album by any means and Destroy Lonely isn’t as horrid as people like Fantano put it out to be, but artists like Lonely don’t tend to learn from their errors to make a better record and this ends up being a result of such ignorance, just an album fit for Opium fans and Opium fans only.
