1/ so even though we believed Delilah was pregnant after my mother put Oliver and her together in attempts to breed them - without MY permission (I paid for both and pay for all their stuff with work money-) She luckily didn’t and it was a false pregnancy! Even after the nesting etc. she didn’t have birth on her actual due date! (This is good news. It was a stressful time for me.)
2/ Oliver, our male is being neutered, soon! I took him to the vet to get an estimate and have his checkup, and we were told he was an extremely healthy boy, (a little underweight in my opinion, but he’s generally a smaller Dutch, so I don’t know if it’s normal) but they said he’s super healthy. They said they can neuter him for a low of 246$ and an high of 413$ (if anything went wrong it’d be higher but as he’s healthier it’s supposed to be lower) but this is the cheapest vet around, our lows at our normal vet is 460$.
Our plans for the future of Delilah and Oliver :
I plan on housing them together, at some point as they have a very good bond, and get along well when, Oliver isn’t chasing her around like a dog, we have considered turning one of our sheds into a suitable housing, but with the extreme weather lately, I’m doubting it. We usually have normal summers when the high goes no bigger than 85degrees, but it’s been either storming badly, or are having heat waves, lately. I don’t want to put Oliver in that position when, he’s used to cool air inside and only a hour or two outside every other day.
And Delilah, as I have no idea who her prior owners were, where she was housed, if she was outside often, etc. I actually might ask the shelter to provide information, about her, as she is very untamed and acts as if she hasn’t been handled in years. I would like to know if she was ever outside, etc. they thought she was a boy when they turned her in, so her real names hank. Have they had her for the four years of her life, or is she in and out of homes? Why’d they get rid of her? These are questions I’d like answered for personal awareness. When I adopted her, she was cool and collected but they wouldn’t let me hold her, just let me pet her, so I didn’t know how she actually acted until we reached home.
Delilah:
Although, friends and family have suggested I rehome her and try again with another female, I don’t give up on animals I get. I believe, every animal I bring home, has been promised A forever home, the first time I look at them and know they’ll be coming home with me, and since Delilah was NOT a impulse buy, and I planned for her, maybe more than a year ahead of time, I will not give up on her, and get rid of her,
No animal is helpless and unable to be trained, trainers are helpless and unable to wait. And that’s what I’ll always go by.
Now it might take a while to tame her, but I don’t know what she’s gone through or haven’t gone through in her four years of living. And I always have to keep that in mind, especially when I feel like giving up.
I have gotten frustrated and gotten angry, to a point where I would just storm away from her, but I’m sure she gets frustrated and angry when I make her come take the treats from me, and not just leave them there like I do for Oliver.
Now- I do see improvement, yesterday she let me stroke her as She drank her water. And little thinks like that. She’s a big grunted/talker though, so I know when to back off before I’m mauled to death by her.
Also. Spaying. When we took Delilah/ hank from the shelter, they were low on staff so, they asked us to take her until her spaying date, a week later. we agreed, and didn’t expect them to tell us she had no appointment to be spayed and they didn’t have a female rabbit by the name of hank in their system so, they couldn’t do it.
Now spaying is a lot more money here, as it’s a harder procedure. I don’t have 400-800+ dollars to spay and neuter both rabbits. I can only do Oliver at the moment. But when the time comes where I have enough to do Delilah, Delilah will be done too. I make 60$ a week so, in about 7 weeks, assuming it’s the highest cost to spay her 400$ and she’s not healthy (which is why I’d be higher)
That’s not a lot.
Anyway, if you made it this far, thanks for reading this all. I’m also going through a loss, so I am not all that active but I participate in my committees and you can always pm if you need to. Take some wholesome bun photos now

Second:
Is there maybe a Humane Society that may perform spay/neuter at a lower cost?
Sadly, im in a smaller town next to Philadelphia (on the lining of philly actually), and I’ve called around but haven’t found anyone yet, the lowest I’ve found was 200-400$ at a hospital a lil’ aways. I know last summer some where in Jersey they were spaying and neutering rabbits for free for one day of the summer but I totally lost their information.

Thank you so much :revolving_hearts:
I love your attitude! I am kind of going through the same thing with my mini lop- Brenda. I adopted her from an irresponsible breeder and she is a handful! Even though I love her and treat her well, she continues to have trust issues.
Sometimes she runs from me or cowers away- it is heartbreaking when I imagine what made her like that. I agree with you- my home is her forever home. No matter how long it takes, I will continue to work with her and not rush things. She is a beautiful bunny who just needs lots of love, patience and spaying- definitely in her future. I am dreading the day I have to pick her up and put her in the carrier for the Vet. She’s going to totally lose it!
I definitely agree with that! Spaying will probably help both our girls calm down. I can’t wait till the day I can walk by her and she won’t run, it feels so good when you finally earn the trust of an animal you’ve been working with :revolving_hearts:

Looks like I’m going to have to speed up the spaying- wasn’t planning on financially until end of September- but she’s becoming really aggressive towards my male bunny- who is small- 2.5 #, she’s 5#. She jumped on top of him this morning and had him pinned down. I’m planning on getting her fixed this Friday, ( I get paid on Thursday).

I actually just read something like this, from someone else. My female runs from my male, or grunts but luckily she doesn’t attack him. He should be getting neutered this month, too.
I wish you and your baby luck with the process
