So I need some help when it comes to part of the backstory of a trio of OCs I'm working on. These Ocs are for the Pokémon anime, not the videogames or the manga. All 3 are the kids of Ash Ketchum, but from 2 different mothers. 1 is from Misty, and the other 2 are from Serena. As for how, I want something to happen between Ash and Serena to where they end up legally separated for a bit when she's two or three months pregnant with their first child. Ash would end up with Misty during his time away from Serena. Ash and Misty would feel that old spark between them, the one that was hinted at but never confirmed, return. One night, they would end up enjoying a heated night of ion that would unknowingly lead to Misty being pregnant as well. A few days later, Misty would talk to Ash and say that the few months they've been together have been wonderful, but she can tell that his heart isn't fully in it and while she does love him, she doesn't want to be his rebound girl, she just wants to be his girl. She then tells him that he needs to go back to Serena and make amends with her since she can tell that he still loves her. He hugs her and agrees to do so before giving her one last kiss before packing his bags, going back to Serena, and making up with her. The part I need help with is figuring out what happens between Ash and Serena to make them separate. If you guys could give me some ideas for what the cause of Ash and Serena's separation could be, that would be very much appreciated.
