the first night of the masquerade
a strange girl arrived late
she was dressed all in black
from her dress to her butterfly mask
she moved with ease and grace
though the mask upon her face
hid her eyes from the world
she bumped into neither boy nor girl
with the girl the prince did dance
after a while he did ask
your eyes I long to see
my lady would you let me please
the strange girl only shock her head
after a moment this she said
if you ask me two more times
then I'll grant you my eyes
the second night the girl returned
and the prince did dance with her
and once again the prince did ask
fair lady please remove your mask
just as she had the other night
she shock her head and then replied
one more time you must ask
only then will I remove my mask
on the third and final night
the girl returned as the prince hoped she might
he took her to the garden and
knelt before her and took her hand
my lady I beg you please
your eyes allow me to see
the girl smiled and then
removed her mask her with her hand
if you she a girl in black
her eyes hidden by a butterfly mask
don't ask to see her eyes
none who see them ever leave alive
