“As light as the rain comes, it still rains down on you”
-Claudia Rankine
as a child, I was azure
tiny feet in tiny boots
rosy cheeks and giggling eyes
stomping from one reflection to the next
laughing in the rain
as a teenager, I was cerulean
skinny jeans and tank tops
gentle smiles and bright futures
hopping from one step to another
dancing in the rain
as an adult, I was ultramarine
frown lines and glasses of wine
tense shoulders and heavy souls
sitting on the cold bumpy ground
staring in the rain
someday I will be indigo
blue dresses and purple flowers
aged creases and wrinkled hands
taking one step at a time
in love with the rain
