a waltz with tragedy

                   bow,

                   and take my hand;

                   let the music echo

                   through these abandoned halls,

                   breaking and drowning and weeping

                   for it knows how this story ends.

                   pull me close,

                   and i'll try to imagine

                   that the skin underneath my fingers

                   is not cold and scared,

                   that your fingertips didn't break

                   so many ancient heroes,

                   that your smile wasn't the reason

                   for so many empires burning,

                   lives ending and loves crashing.

                   kiss me softly,

                   and i will close my eyes,

                   so we can both pretend

                   that this isn't

                   the end;

                   that this isn't

                   the last of us.
