─ a concept, and the reality

                  concept:

             the boy you fell in love with

            is like a clear sky on a perfect summer day,

            laughter bubbling out of your throat

             and euphoria with every new

             sunrise and sunset;

            like you've finally found home.

                  reality:

            the blood on his hands is still wet,

            his knuckles too scarred and rough

            on your cheeks,

            the scent of smoke clinging to his skin

            as he kisses you like he's breathing

            for the very last time.

            and you fall in love.

                  concept:

            you don't feel like you're suffocating

             with him

            because every beat your heart skips,

            his own is right there to make up for it.

            there is no weight sitting on your chest

             because the only thing you feel is love.

                  reality:

            it feels like he's drowning and

            pulling you with him,

            but you cannot let go of his hand

            because no matter how much it hurts now,

            you still need him like a drug

            that brings colors to your world.

            and you still love him.

                  concept:

            the boy you fell in love with

             is the other part of your guarded soul,

            and you know that

             while you're in his arms

            the world can only rage on

             but never touch you, or him,

            because you're both safe.

                  reality:

            as you watch the flames twirl

            around his wrists,

            his eyes burn brighter than

            they ever did

            and suddenly you realize that

            he had never looked more alive,

            than right there.

            you still feel safe, but this time

            only for yourself.

            yet you still love him.

                  concept:

             you two have a whole life ahead of you

            and there is nothing that could ever

            bring you apart.

                  but in reality

            I don't think we'll ever get to see

            how gray hair and wrinkles look on him.

            and you still love him.
