Hi, fellow photographers!
I've discovered that I prefer portrait photography more than anything else.
HOWEVER
I don't have a proper portrait lens. Now, I'm doing an HND Photography college course starting August and I'm applying for the student funding thing and this will help me afford a new lens and other equipment I'll need. But I've found two lenses that are cheep and great but have their own unique features that I absolutely need.
The 50mm lens

This lens is small, has a great DoF and ultimately softens the image a little which would be great for the kind of portraits I want to create. It costs £128-150. A flaw is that it has the slightest bit of chromatic aberration but it's almost unnoticeable.
18-135mm lens

This lens is quite big but it has great sharpness which would be great for capturing every detail in the subjects face. The best part about this lens is that it has Image Stabilization (I.S.), something the 50mm doesn't have. It also has a zoom in function. It's £390
So
I need a lens with I.S. on it because I have shaky hands and I like taking dark photos too but I still want soft looking photos without the use of editing. So, help me. What lens should I buy in a few months??

The 50mm is a key lens that Everyone should aim for early on. It will be useful in many types of photography as well as having a lower price. Frankly you can ignore the chromatic aberration of most lenses too.
The 50mm's f1.8 will also allow you to raise your Shutter Speed to a point where shakey hands don't really matter.
There are perks to the zoom lens but to start with I'd go for the 50mm. Unless you think you can afford the 50mm on your own without the grant. Then I'd say get the 50 yourself and have the grant pay for the zoom lens since it's more expensive.
Hek, I forgot about the fstop perk. We'll, I think I'll go with the 50mm now. Thank you :)
If you like to take dark photo I guess the first one is more appropriate
