The Australian Capital Territory has ed new legislation, 'The Variation in Sex Characteristics (Restricted Medical Treatment) Bill 2023'.

This new law bans unnecessary surgeries on intersex children for as long as they are unable to consent themselves.

Some emergency surgeries will be permitted but those will not affect the individual's 'sex characteristics'.

This is Australia-first legislation for the intersex community and the other States and Territories are encouraged to follow suit.
