The heart chakra governs our love center. It allows us to feel comion, love and empathy towards other human beings, ourselves and the creatures of mother earth.
Many think that the heart is where you feel strong emotions such as heart ache or the radiance of love, however, this is a common misconception.
You feel those feelings through your pericardium. The pericardium is a protective sac that cradles the heart, and it has a very close relationship with the heart.
In relation to the Shiatsu meridian theory, which is the concept of many “meridians” or “pathways” that travel along the body, the pericardium meridian runs along the bottom of the arms.
Notice how when people are upset they fold their arms and hunch over? This is because they feel the need to protect both their heart, and their pericardium (the membrane enclosing the heart, consisting of an outer fibrous layer and an inner double layer of serous membrane.)
When you are very close with someone you tend to open your heart center to them, displaying open and warm body language. When you are nervous, angry or hurt, your body subconsciously protects your energetic aspects.
Over Active Heart Chakra:
Caring too much (As in putting yourself in emotional turmoil due to someone elses issue), Obsessive tendencies, Abusive relationship patterns, Highly judgmental.
Under active Heart Chakra:
Feeling unwanted, feeling unloved, Suppressed feelings, emotionally unstable, a feeling of numbness.
Balanced Heart Chakra:
Ability to love freely, happiness, comionate, empathetic.
How Can I Balance My Heart Chakra?
1. This may be a difficult task for many, but I figure I’d start out this list with a bang. Take a mirror and stare at yourself for a long period of time in the eyes. This may feel strange, but really dive into your soul. This way you can face yourself, and your feelings. This can be extremely emotional for some, as deep seeded feelings may arise. Communicate with your soul. Find the reason for your suffering.
2. Practice kindness. If you feel worthless or numb, I would suggest being kind to others. Open a door for a stranger, or throw a random smile at someone. See how much you can impact the world through kindness. Don’t feel discouraged if someone doesn’t give you the response you want, try and try again. Sometimes the difference between life and death is a smile, or kindness from a stranger.
3. Do things for yourself. At time, those with heart chakra imbalances tend to focus on the well-being of others they forget to take care of themselves. Treat yourself to a nice bubble bath, or perhaps a day at the spa. Even if it is indulging in a hobby of yours. Spend some time with yourself.
Get to know and love yourself.
