WWE and New Japan are my two favorite wrestling companies overall. When the news broke out a few weeks ago about a potential partnership, I was skeptical of it truly happening, but thought about it and what would be my dream WWE-New Japan card.

Now, a few notes before we start: I’m only doing it with the current rosters. Because otherwise believe me, I would have even greater matches in mind. So Raw, Smackdown, NXT, NXT UK, New Japan proper and New Japan Strong guys are available. Guys on legend deals and non-active competitors are not.

And also, these are only guys who haven’t had a match before with one another. So, no AJ vs Tanahashi or Nakamura vs Okada let’s say. With that in mind, let’s get started.

Guerillas of Destiny vs The Usos

The clash of two great brother tag teams, belonging to great polynesian wrestling families. There is a lot of history between the two teams, and they are both really good in the ring as well. This could be a clinic in tag team wrestling, especially if The Usos are the babyfaces.

NXT UK Championship: WALTER vs KENTA

There may be a big size difference, but my God this match would be stiff as all hell. Big chops, big kicks galore. Plus, the size difference helps making this match stand-out, as a big David vs Goliath contest.

Johnny Gargano vs Hiroshi Tanahashi

If only I had made this blog a few years back, I could have put Tanahashi vs Cena. But anyway, Tanahashi may be old, yes, but he can still go, as he has proven this year against Shingo Takagi. So, I’m expecting great magic with someone like Gargano as well, who works well, whether as a heel or a face, but I’d love a face vs face match up here. Two pure babyfaces squaring off to see who has the biggest fighting spirit.

NEVER Openweight Championship: Jay White vs Tommaso Ciampa

If the previous match would be between two pure babyfaces, this one departs from this idea, and is almost at the opposite. Rather than just a match, I would have loved a full program between the two, exchanging words and threats. But alas, this also will remain a dream most likely. But if this would occur, for whatever reason, I would absolutely be on the edge of my seat.

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship: El Desperado vs Finn Balor

No, they never had a 1 vs 1 match before. And this would be a great opportunity for El Desperado to establish himself against one of the greatest wrestlers to hold the title. Whether you call him Finn Balor or Prince Devitt doesn’t matter. What matters is that you have two of the best workers under 90 kg clashing in what should be an enthralling contest.

Cesaro vs Kazuchika Okada

What a battle between two of the most incredibly versatile wrestlers of our generations. These two can pretty much do it all in the ring, and it would be a sight to watch them push themselves to their limits. I don’t care who you book to win this, neither man would look weak by the end of the match.

WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns vs Tetsuya Naito

The Tribal Chief versus the founder of Los Ingobernables de Japon. Two charismatic bad boys, one in the heel role, one in the face role. Oh and yeah they’re good in the ring. Let’s not kid ourselves, Reigns has been consistently great between the ropes for a while now, and so has Naito, who I think is still better. Nonetheless, you have here a lot of potential storytelling between the two characters clashing for the first time.

WWE Championship: Bobby Lashley vs Minoru Suzuki

Two former MMA guys beating the ever living hell out of each other. This would be a stiff and snug match, and just a pure spectacle. This amazing athletic powerhouse in Lashley, up against Suzuki’s sadism and technique? I’d pay a lot of money to see that.

IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match: Shingo Takagi vs AJ Styles

I love The Dragon. Shingo Takagi has been one of my favorites in New Japan for quite a while now, and a serious contender for wrestler of the year so far. Pairing him up with th Phenomenal One, with the IWGP title up for grabs would be a sight to be seen. Expect a quick and snappy match-up between these two.
