I've already talked about it in a post in the past, but in case you haven't seen it, or you need to refresh your memory, the Mist, this poison coming out of the mouths of wrestlers like Asuka or the Great Muta was invented by the Great Kabuki, a classic heel of the 70s.

I know that many will find it useless to discuss the origin of such basic strikes, but basic attacks are the pillars of modern wrestling. I mean, there was a time when the Suplex was innovative. So, the person who originated the kick where one turns 180° and then hits the opponent in the chest or belly is Murciélago Velázquez, known to be one of the first masked luchadors, as well as being at the origin of matches where masks are involved, losing the first of its kind in 1940. He called this kick La Filomena.

If Seth Rollins has his own variation, the original, where the opponent is in a Standing Surfboard position before being trampled, was created by Super Dragon, a wrestling indy legend, who certainly doesn't have the reputation for being the most professional of them all, but who is best known for what he brought to Pro Wrestling Gorilla, one of the most popular promotions in the United States.

See Randy Orton's kicks where he takes his time to aim at each member of his opponent before trampling his head? He got this attack from Ron Garvin, former NWA champion in the 80's, known as an excellent mid-carder, but bad hand eventer, partly because of the timing of his push.

One of those blows that looks ridiculous to the modern eye but at the time seemed devastating, is the Heart Punch, hitting the heart directly to stop it for a few moments. Its originator is Stan Stasiak, former WWWF champion in 1973.

Triple H is a man extremely respectful of the wrestlers from the generations before him. In addition to taking over certain spots, stipulations and storylines and placing them in a modern setting, he has also taken over certain moves. The High Knee is no exception, invented by the late Harley Race, the face of the NWA during the late 70's and early 80's, and better known at the WWE for being the first to use the gimmick of "King" in that particular promotion. With that said, there are variations of High Knee, including...

KENTA, or Hideo Itami, is the inventor of Go To Sleep, but I think most people here already knew that. But did you know that he also invented the Running Knee made popular in the West by Daniel Bryan? Proof of the influence of the Japanese wrestler who was considered by many as the best Lightweight worker of the 2000s, all promotions included.

As mentioned in my previous post, CM Punk loves Japanese wrestling, and has imported the Shining Wizard here. AJ Lee, his wife is also famous for its use, but The Great Muta was the origin of its creation. Proof again of his timeless style.

Simple, fast, and impactful. Spinning Back Fist is an attack that doesn't necessarily end a match, but it does resonate and its execution can quickly bring back the interest of the audience. The first person to use this attack in wrestling was Aja Kong, a major name on the Japanese scene in the 90s who surprisingly continues to wrestle today.

One of the most popular and iconic strokes in wrestling, although over-exploited nowadays, the superkick is still one of the few strokes one can believe capable of finishing a match. One might think that Shawn Michaels was its inventor, but in fact no. And it wasn't his partner Marty Jannetty either. No, its inventor was "Gentleman" Chris Adams. A forgotten but crucial name in British wrestling and even elsewhere. One of the most respected wrestlers of the 80's, he also trained Stone Cold and Razor Ramon.
