A Kaya (female)/ kamŭk(male) are a dragon subspecies that live in the dry and rocky areas. They came to be when IO rested on some boulders, his draconic essence remained on said boulders which gave them life and a draconic shape, these were the first kayas and kamŭks to wander the dunes. kamŭks and kayas are mever alone, being in small families of 5 and up to 9 . They can live up to 500 years of age

A kamŭk/kaya are black, with a stone like formation that makes the monster appear to be wearing armor. Unlike other dragons they are not scaled, but leathered. A kamŭk stands at a height of 18 feet and have horns. A kaya stands at 16 feet and have no horns. Their eyes are a milky white with no pupil. These dragon mimics have a slow metabolism and can go months without eating. They are carnivores and prefer meat, but in desperate times they eat stones or cacti

Kayas and kamŭks have a good relationship with skarns (another homebrew monster), who are distant cousins. A kaya or kamŭk would use them as projectiles (with concent) to deal extra damage. Skarns live with kayas and kamŭks, chances are you will find them together.

Their relationships with humanoids is very variant on the alpha of the pack, usually the strongest member, who decides how relations go. Kayas and kamŭks are known to block trading routes for territory and often charge for age. These creatures understand how trading work, reports say that they trade geodes with humanoids in exchange for food and access to water holes nobles own so they can drink.

Oddly enough, kayas and kamŭks almost never interact with true dragons. A blue dragon leaves them alone, or sometimes hires them as lair guards. Brass dragons who find them speak to them as expected, and unlike most creatures, these reptian brutes gladly listen to their endless rambles, perhaps there is info they may need or maybe they like listening? Who knows

these creatures are sociable and they select mates by looks or feats, a kaya will be attracted to a scarred and bruised kamŭk, body damage is a representation of a warrior, who has fought the hardest of fights, if a male has a broken horn... boy do the kayas go crazy, its not one sided, for a kamŭk searches for a kaya warrior to watch his back in combat. Say a kaya wants to go right, but a kamŭk wants to go foward, they wrestle till one is pinned to the sand, loser must agree with his or her mate.

They lay 1 egg and on rare ocassions 2 eggs. Once the hatchlings hatch, the parents build a lair via digging and raise their young till age 10 when they can defend themselves, once they do they all wander the desert together, until the family gets to big, they split the clan and repeat.
