Mario 64 or Sunshine?

Not to long ago the 2nd contest for Odyssey October was announced. It's exactly what the Title says. I'll be participating in (hopefully) every contest. I already know mostbof them so, I know what to expect (jk I forgot all of them). Now, before I start, i'd like to say I haven't played either. I know, it's sad. I missed out on great games. But I can still choose who I want. Here:

Super Mario Sunshine

Why did I choose sunshine? 🤔

Again. I haven't played this game to know it fully but i've seen alot of Gameplay on it. Now. There were many reasons

1. The Story

2. The Music

3. The Design choices

4. F.L.U.D.D

All these reasons is why Sunshine is diffrent to the Mario Series. I love new ideas in games as long as it doesn't change to much, that's why I live Galaxy and StarFox adventures so much. But those are diffrent. Today i'm talking about Super Mario Sunshine. Let's begin.

The Storyline

Now the storyline doesn't change to much when you really think about it. Peach gets captured, go save peach. Simple. But there's so much more to do in this game just to get there. You have a new sidekick (i'll get to that later) that helps you along the journey. And what sets this apart from the other games, is that instead of just saving Peach. You're supposed to clean up a the goop on the island. Now you don't actually have to but it's the main point of this game. If you played Sunshine you should know that Mario was mistake. for a shadow form of himself. The Delfino Island police not only take Mario and put him in jail. But theres this whole stupid Court room cutscene that really has no point. But it's somthing to laugh about atleast, and that's how you're tasked into cleaning up all the goop "you" made.

Now at one point you learn who this Shadow Mario guy truly is. Theres this one level where you're at a water park, roller coaster, amusement park. Pretty cool place to walk around in. At one point you enconter a big metal veraion of Bowser. Mecha-Bowser. Who's being controlled by Shadow Mario, who has Princess Peach. Naturally you defeat it. But at this point, you learn who Shadow Mario actually is. It's Bowser.Jr. Sound familiar? He's been in almost every other Mario Game, even Mario + Rabbids and the other spinoffs. This is Bowser.Jr's first apperance.

"But Max, wasn't he in Yoshi's Story"?

No, that was Bowser, Baby Bowser, Bowser.Jr is Bowsers "son". Ok, let's continue.

The Music

My favorite part of every Mario game. The Music. I loved the music in Galaxy, 3D World, etc. Sunshine is no diffrence. I always loved upbeat tunes that I could just tap my foot to or bob my head. Delfino Islands music, Bianco Hills, Noki Bay. They all have this sence of style in the music where you feel like you're actually there, experiencing the level for yourself. It feels like you're on vacation yourself, sadly you're not and you are actually just playing on a TV screen. Take these as example

Don't you just get this kind of aquatic feel whem listening to them. I always loved water themed levels in games. Whether it's under watet, above water, deep sea, tropical. I love it. Which is why I love this game so much. I know I haven't actually played this game but I really love the aspect about this game.

The Design Choices

Now when it comes to the diffrences of Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine. Sunshine is completely diffrent. It has the same purpose and main aspect of the game.

-Mario wears a short sleeved shirt in Sunshine

-Diffrent consoles

-Almost diffrent everything.

That's what I love most about Sunshine. How it's so diffrent from the others. As I said up there, I love games that are diffrent to the series, but not to diffrent. Like Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts...That was a bad call.

Now I always loved Tropical Settings in games and almost everything. I also love almost anything water related. "Almost" I still have the Water dungeons from Zelda. But Aquarium Park from Sonic Colors and Zora's Domain/Vah Ruta are some of my favorite Water levels. Vah Ruta is the only Water Dungeon I like in Zelda btw. Water is essential for Mario to acces most shines and complete levels. Some people will say that it's tedious to get the water and get back to where you were or that it limits the actions you can perform unlike Mario 64. But Nintendo always loves trying new Ideas in there games. Because of that, we have an Open world Zelda, T-Rex Mario, etc. Yes it can be bad at times bit you gotta take chances sometimes. So I think the Water aspect is a cool idea.

F.L.U.D.D

Now around this time Nintendo really liked making weird or annoying sidekicks for games (Navi, Midna, Tricky, The Boat from Windwaker). Mario got the same treatment as the rest. He didn't get an abnormal animal or anchient being. He got a talking Hose. Just like Luigi with the Poltergeist, this invention was made by Professor E. Gadd. Clearly F.L.U.D.D is a better invention than the Poltergeist. The Poltergeist is a vacuum, F.L.U.D.D is a Hose/Jetpack/Rocket/Surfboard (kinda). Poor Luigi. F.L.U.D.D has seen in other games other than Sunshine, he's been with Mario in the Super Smash Bros series since I think Brawl. Maybe Melee but i'm not 100% sure. Oh, incase you don't know what F.L.U.D.D stand for, it stands for:

Super Mario Sunshine is an amazing game. The Music makes you feel like you're on a great vacation. The landscape feel just right with it being a Mario game. The one thing that could be better is the final boss fight and the voice acting. The Final Boss fight is easy and boring. Bowser isn't even that fierce, you fight him while taking a bath. And the voice acting. It could have been so much better. That's my least favorite part. But when you think of it, once you play Sunshine. You can always look back on it and all the great memories while playing. Collecting all the shrines, Beating bowser into oblivian, finding out who Shadow Mario is. Such a creative fun game to play. If I could play this game, I know I would have a fun time. :)
