Valkyrja. From old norse "valr" the slain and "kyrja" chooser.
Valkyries were like their name states the one to choose the warriors who woyld live or Valhalla.
Sometimes they are portrayed hawks, sometimes swans.
Did the word nightmare really appear from the belief that this frightening dream occurred after the visitation of the underworld riding on the back of a Dark Goddess?
Sometimes they are portrayed as Ravens flying over a battlefield, making their choice.

I know most people I know that are into mythology are in the swan ballpark. But I most see them more as hawks or something similar. They guided souls to Valhalla, and maybe Folkvanger (I'm not sure so don't quote me on that), but were also warriors for Odin in their own right
They are warriors but I imagine them looking angelic, like a swan (kinda). So personality, wolves. Appearance, swans
