My egg was about to hatch. I paced the halls waiting. The tapestry depicted brave warriors, like my son was to be. When I heard a crack I knew he was coming. He, somehow I knew. He was to be brave, and fly through battle with grace and charm. He would fly with the stars in the sky, StarFlight was to be his name. I grabbed his egg and ran into the hall where all of my kingdom of MoonCrawler dragons lived. I saw pail white and pitch black faces in the croud, the thing they had in common was pure excitement.
My mate, King Burn sat before the eternal flame. When a wingless, disfigured, or too powerful or in some way not right to be a pesant, was born we always cast them onto the flame, no wingless or anything bad inane way was ever born to the royal family, I had nothing to worry about.
The croud went silent as the egg cracked, and broke open. I felt my heart... he was... Wingless. Instead of claws he had stumps, and he had gold on him, his horns were flimsy and grose. He scales felt slimy. Everyone began to scream and cry.
"My own dragonet, an insult to dragon kind, a disfigured wingless?" I couldn't believe it. He was so small and strange. He disgusted me, he made me rage inside.
"Kill the disgusting creature already!" My daughter princess MoonFlame screamed, hiding her eyes.
"You must throw the dragonet upon the flame my love." He didn't seem to care at all about my dragonet, about how horrible he is.
I picked him up and dropped him on the flame, the fire licked his burning scales. He let out a final cry as he curled into a ball. I reached into the flames and grabbed him out hoping he was ok. Everyone gasped and looked apauled. I plunged him into the water mentioned to be his first bath. I hoped with all my heart he would survive. He was burned badly, but I had to try.
