This was a concept that’s been bouncing around in my noggin for a while.

the suit would have built-in cannons;

because for some reason canon Momo is addicted to making giant weapons with ammo that use up a lot of her lipids.

Idk… momo’s costume in the series kinda bugs me. Not in the usual ‘why are they sexualizing female characters way’ but in the ‘this doesn’t make sense in context’ kind of way.

You’re telling me- the one of the smartest characters in the show, the top student, could only think of THAT when asking for a hero costume???

A revealing outfit doesn’t even fit her personality. I think of Momo as the princess of Class 1A.

At the risk of sounding too Marvel, why didn't they just give her a full body nanotech suit?

She could expose certain parts of her body to allow her to use her Quirk, it would give her overall protection when she is unable to use her Quirk, and she could still have the comfort and flexibility to be active and agile on the field.

Seems to me like someone just liked her costume and went all Metal Gear Solid 5 Quiet level of excuses.

Her outfit makes perfect sense for her powers tho, she materializes objects out of her bare skin, so the only way to fully utilize her power she needs as much skin exposed, plus larger objects also require larger surface volume of the body to create, sometimes even her canon outfit still isn't revealing enough, as seen in season 1 when at one point she basically had to take her entire top off in front of a thankfully discharged Denki in order to materialize a much larger object

Plus she's been training her quirk for a very long time, no doubt she realized early on that the only way make the most of her abilities is to design a very revealing outfit, and through many years of training like that, it makes sense that she'd eventually stop caring about showing off her body and lose all sense of shame, as the aforementioned scene I talked about proves, and I don't think this contradicts with the more princess-y aspects of her character at all

[1/2] Momo canon design isn’t bad. But it doesn’t evolve or let Momo use her quirk in the most efficient way.

Momo often likes to create staffs, or cannons— big, heavy weapons with ammo. A HUGE WASTE OF LIPIDS.

The costume I designed is supposed to work by detecting when she creates something- and moving aside to expose skin.

In the piece above I only show a small piece moving so the viewer can see the whole design.

So the costume can still expose skin, and technically show more than when momo has to pry open her original costume.

Also, the series itself kinda ignores this. At the end of the manga, we see a small cameo of Momo’s adult hero costume; and it shows LESS skin than her teenage one.

Setsuna Tokage from Class 1B- has a quirk that splits her body apart. Naturally parts of her costume would also come off- however, that’s not the case.

The author, Horikoshi answered why in a Q&A.

The explanation is that her costume can regenerate itself. They have self-recreating fabric in the universe of BNHA.

If Momo had that, she could just make something, it’d tear open the suit, and then it’d fix itself. Momo wouldn’t need to waste any lipids by fixing her costume.

If the show just wanted to give Momo a simple suit, they could. But they intentionally gave her a suit that she doesn’t need.

When Momo isn’t using guns, she uses staffs like a melee fighter. Close combat, where it’s easier to get hurt. While a staff offers some safety, being a long distance weapon, it can only do so much-

-so it’d be better to not expose anything while fighting close range. That’s why she has full-coverage armor.

Even though Momo’s costume is revealing, it still isn’t revealing enough, since she needs to pry it open.

That’s why the suits opens up by itself- so if she needs to make something in the middle of a fight, she won’t have to fumble to get her costume open.

It does that automatically.

[2/2] In character design, typically you want the design to reflect the characters personality.

Momo’s canon design isn’t bad- but it doesn’t fit her in the context of her character. Her canon design is more like a bathing suit- a simple design. Not bad, but it doesn’t tell us much about Momo.

I don’t like Mina Ashido’s design- it’s a bit much for me, but it’s not a bad design. It suits Mina as a character. And the pattern is unique enough to be identifiable.

Ibara Shiozaki’s costume is just robes. It doesn’t do anything to help her, but it does show us her character.

Momo’s canon design doesn’t have much in of patterns, or silhouette. Her winter costume was a bit better. The cape added visual interest by moving, and gave her a more dramatic presence as a leader.

The design- in of aesthetic- isn’t bad. Though it doesn’t match the usual ‘vibes’ of Momo’s casual clothes.

A costume that reveals enough skin for Momo doesn’t actually have to be ‘revealing’. It can have lots of thin fabrics over the costume that’ll be pushed aside when she makes something.

As an early design, it could work. It’s simple, a lot to add on to. Momo had an issue with self-confidence and learning to trust her own decisions.

I wouldn’t have a problem if the costume evolved with her, but it doesn’t.

Momo’s canon design isn’t bad, but given everything the show gives us- it certainly isn’t the best design she could have.

Not saying that the design I made is the best, but I think it works slightly better.

Not only is it fixing the sexualized design of her canon suit, but it's creative and pretty. I LOVE this idea.
