What I Watched February 2025

Dune (1984)

I know it has a cult following but I had never seen it before. I’m not sure if I call it good but I have no regrets watching it. I don’t know how to explain it but I really like the whole aesthetic of late ‘70’s/early 80’s sci-fi movies, and this certainly fits the bill. Because of this, I might actually say I would prefer to watch it over the new Dune movies (if I was just going to put something on). :star: :star: :star:

Superman (1978)

Watching Dune last night reminded me of this. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen parts of it in ing as a kid but I never saw it from start to finish that I’m aware of. It totally has that aesthetic that I love. I’m normally not into superheroes, but this would be a major exception. Again and I love the look and style of this movie. I also love its musical score. It’s something I should watch more often. :star: :star: :star: :star:

Shrek Forever After

Obviously not as good as the first (or second) but it’s still a solid sequel. I really enjoyed the other ogres and action girl Fiona. I think this movie is kind of underrated. Like I think a lot of people were so turned off by the third they either forgot about or was turned off by this. Oh yeah, the “do the roar” kid is one of my favorite things in the franchise ever. :star: :star: :star: :star:

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Yeah what can I say that hasn’t been said a million times by this point? It’s my favorite in the series because of the mystery aspect. Dobby is pretty funny and l like the flying car. It just takes me back to a better place. :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:

Toy Story 2

I randomly watched the first one a while back, so why not give this another watch? For some reason, I don’t like this as much as the first, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad movie. Far from it in fact, it’s one of the best sequels ever. It doesn’t feel cheap or lazy and the new characters actually add something to the story. :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:

Toy Story 3

The perfect end to the trilogy, in my opinion. Honestly I didn’t think the fourth one was that bad but it didn’t need to exist. Anyways what can I say about this movie that I haven’t said a million times already? This is like the perfect movie. It tugs on your heartstrings but it makes you laugh out loud at the same time. Also in a personal note this movie came out when I was just at a better place in my life. It brings back memories for that reason. :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:

The Nut Job

I have never seen this movie before and clearly I was not missing much. I guess it wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t good either. In fact I forgot all about what I saw the next day. Well except for some farting gophers. :star: :star:

Steven Universe: The Movie

It’s Valentine’s Day, so I’m keeping with my tradition of watching this movie. I normally don’t like movies that are based on shows that much but this one is a major exception. If I had to complain about something is that there are too many songs. They aren’t bad songs but there is just not enough breathing room. :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:

Meet Dave

I had never seen this movie before and I mostly knew it from the behind the scenes photo of the giant model of Eddie Murphy’s head that became a meme a few years ago. Plus the fact that it long held the record for the movie that lost the most theaters after its second week. It reminds me of stuff like Baby Geniuses or North in that the premise doesn’t seem half bad, but it just seems really half baked. It just never gets a laugh. It wasn’t as bad as the previously mentioned movies, but it’s still pretty bad. :star: :star:

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

I’m a big fan of the books despite being way out of the target demo. I never saw this movie when it first came out because I never read the books at that point. I first watched it a few years ago. I enjoyed it. It’s not a mind blowing masterpiece that I would want to watch all the time but if I’m looking for something harmless just to spend my time. :star: :star: :star:

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules

I’m officially on a Wimpy Kid kick now. Like literally everything I said about the first Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie applies here too, except I think I might like this one slightly more. I love the absurdity of the the lock on the bathroom door. :star: :star: :star:
