I think that they both have the same thing in common despite their bodies being in a way completely different from each other.
They both are guardians and their purpose in life was to protect however both of them somehow met horrible circumstances that affected their ability to do their job.
In Zoh Shia's case it was heavily corrupted in turn by that of the black dragon Fatalis when its creators foolishly used the black dragon's parts for that of it's construction however in turn by doing so the result of it ended in Zoh Shia being in a state of madness by the evil beast's desire for destruction.
As for Malzeno it was also heavily corrupted by a powerful force and that force would be the leech like Qurio. The Qurio would swarm all over Malzeno and try to control it
