Elfie began life, many, many centuries ago as a young Dryad. Back when the world itself was still very young and magicks of many kinds were very wild. Right after the great Catastrophe happened. Back then, everything was new and strange. Trees had life, Springs and Rivers had life as well, even the very wind seemed to speak to you as it ed. Everything seemed to breathe with a fresh air that hadn’t been felt before. Such a rich and beautiful world, born anew. Such was the landscape Elfie was born into. As a sapling, Elfie didn’t know much of the world around her. She kept close to her wood, never straying too far from her beloved Sycamore Tree. Despite this, she always had a curious nature about her. She used to hide near her tree and quietly watch as various Adventurers wandered through her forest. Silently fascinated with the different and peculiar characters that came through. She dreamed about going on adventures of her own. However, she as a Dryad, she wasn’t able to stray very far from her tree. That didn’t stop her from gaining enough courage to approach wandering travelers and assist them in various ways. While it wasn’t that Dryads, didn’t help people, it was still unusual for one to so willing go out of her way to help. Elfie soon earned the title of “The Wanderer’s Fairy”. A title she proudly held on to as the years went on.

As the years ed, Elfie had managed to gain the trust of almost everyone who ed through her woods. Even making friends with more than a few of the Adventurers. It wasn’t uncommon for travelers and adventurers alike to camp under her tree and spend a few nights with her. They sang, danced, laughed, and shared stories with her. It was almost a dream come true. In return Elfie provided them with minor protection magics and assisted them with how best to navigate her woods. She would even introduce them to her sisters. However, Elfie still didn’t understand what it meant to be mortal. For Dryads can only be killed if their tree is destroyed. It wasn’t until one late August day, when some of her favorite adventurers returned to her with a gravely wounded party member. Elfie had never seen an injured person before. She didn’t understand or know what to do. She ended up watching someone she cared for die in her arms for the first time. This revelation shook Elfie’s fundamental understanding of people. She retreated to her tree for quite some time after that. Even when travelers looked for her they couldn’t find her. It wasn’t until the band of Adventurers approached her tree asking if they could bury and hold a vigil for their fallen comrade that Elfie finally made another appearance. And what a beautiful and heartfelt vigil it was too. Elfie had never experienced something quite like this before, sad but still beautiful. They gracefully laid their friend to rest near the foot of Elfie’s tree, sung hymns, and decorated the ground with flowers for their friend. Elfie had never cried before. But the feeling was rather freeing to her.

That night would end up being one of many. Elfie decided to start learning how to make salves and potions to help the people that ed through her woods. She no longer wanted to just give people directions, she wanted to actively help them. As she assisted more and more people, Elfie began to change. Her tree began to grow, almost as if she was slowly evolving. Then one day, everything changed. Elfie woke up to the sight of a rather small Dragon, curled up at the base of her tree. The dragon was beautiful. It was long and slender, like a giant serpent. Its scales shimmered like opals, and it had beautiful iridescent Wisteria feathered wings and feathers that ran down the ridge of its back. It had lovely Blue horns that looked similar to an Angora Ram. And two ears that looked like little wings, with two long, trailing whiskers that seemed to trail the entire length of her body. Elfie was so in awe of the beautiful creature that it took her a little while to notice the bright, pulsating, glowing green tattoos that seemed to snake all over the dragon’s body. Elfie gingerly approached the dragon with caution. Even though it was much smaller than a grown dragon, it was still very large and could do significant damage to her and her tree if it felt threatened. The dragon slowly opened its eyes to reveal one sky blue eye and one shamrock green eye. It regarded Elfie warily, until Elfie uncharacteristically sat down in front of the majestic creature and began to explain who she was and where the dragon was. The dragon watched her, and remained silent for a time. Then, it raised its head and introduced itself as Gaia, the new World Dragon. Gaia then explained that since the Catastrophe, she had been looking for a safe place to call her home and after searching for months on end, she came to rest at Elfie’s tree exhausted and alone. She sought refuge in this tucked away woods.

It was then that Elfie made up her mind that she would not only befriend the World Dragon, but she would give the Dragon what she desired. A permanent place to call home. Together, Elfie and Gaia worked tirelessly to create a safe haven for Gaia. Being a dragon meant she drew a lot of unwanted attention. As Gaia grew, so did Elfie. Until one day, Elfie awoke feeling completely different. New even. It wasn’t until later on that Gaia informed Elfie that she had indeed evolved. She was no longer a Dryad, confined to a tree. She was a Forest Child. She had entered the next stage in the life of a Dryad, becoming a Forest Spirit. This can be achieved by the deeds of the individual. Elfie was unsurprisingly rather shocked by the sudden change. Not only was she now attuned to all of nature as opposed to one singular tree, she was also able to change her appearance to however she wished, and now was able to wield a variety of magicks. Elfie was now able to commune with all wildlife as well. It soon became apparent that she would need to actually start learning how to not only defend herself, but her new charge as well. Gaia had recently requested that Elfie become one of her Tenders as being not only the World Dragon, but also the one that held the spirit of the old God, Gaia required protection. Gaia had already sought out another as her other tender, a Fawn named Frieda. Together, the three worked tirelessly to create an intricate and hidden labyrinth deep in the woods, to enshroud Gaia and keep her safe from harm.

Elfie’s dream of being able to go on adventures was finally realized, and Gaia safely hidden, Elfie began mastering the many arts of a Druid. Eventually becoming a master of the Circles of the Land, Shepherd, and Stars. Though the became proficient in every circle. With her new found abilities, Elfie decided to go on a small adventure of her own, where in she happened across a nearly dead puppy. In a desperate attempt to save the creature’s life, she accidentally turned it into her personal familiar. Binding the puppy to her very essence. After much confusion over what had happened, Elfie named the dog Linaria and the two became inseparable. That is until one day, Linaria became lost from Elfie and in a panic, wandered off. Thus prompting Elfie to go on her biggest adventure yet.

꧁ PRESENT DAY ꧂

Since being reunited with Linaria, Elfie has made a bunch of new friends, specifically with the gang who found and took care of Linaria until Elfie was able to find her. She has since grown very close to the group and visits quite often, even gaining them an audience with Gaia herself. When she isn’t over there with the rest of them, Elfie spends the majority of her time either maintaining watch over the perimeter of the woods, or back in her tree which she has since converted into a little cottage for herself and Linaria, working on some manner of potions, tending to her garden, or spending time singing an ancient song to Gaia. Elfie has grown quite accustomed to her new life. She’s become very content to watch the world around her grow.

It wasn’t until the threat of Lilith that all of that was suddenly upended. The gentle nights of singing and idling the night away were suddenly transformed into preparing for something potentially catastrophic. The sudden threat of the end of the world, had forced Elfie and her friends to prepare a war they might not win.
