Those who suffer from high cholesterol pretty much know that their Doctors believe in just one Godly medicine - STATINS. There was and Up until recent days, no match for Statins what so ever in of benefits provided to a patient with risk of heart disease and obese lifestyle.

But..

As they say, you can't always stay in the first position.

Scientists have come up with a new drug - PRESCRIPTION VASCEPA - something that was found to be very very effective in reducing triglycerides, a type of body fat. This might in turn have a really good effect on blood vessels and Heart as such and reduce risk of heart attacks!!!!

For Med School students wondering what it's composition is - it's just one compound - Icosapentethyl!

Hmm.. Interesting!!!

Seems like a promising medicine, though we can’t be too sure yet. Clinical trials have been a nightmare for scientists since many promising compounds ends up getting rejected due to safety reasons

But I am interested in one thing; how much better is it in of hypolipidemic properties compared to your standard statins?

Statins were considered Godly and nothing was though to match Statins anytime. And that's why perhaps Anything coming even pitch closer to Statins are widely applauded. It's like something has matched a Godly state!

In of effectiveness, as per what I read, these are said to be equally efficacious as Statins so far in the studies on mice. What the title means is that statins while reducing cholesterol levels tend to have a slight deleterious effect on other fats over long term. Also Statins are said to cause rhabfomyolysis and muscle fatigue over time - something that you wouldn't want to happen since it affects lifestyle. Our current drug in the talking is said to be free of such effects. So#Hope

Yeah hopefully this one will work out. Apparently statins might also damage your liver. I don’t know about other countries but liver function needs to be screened on a monthly basis where I live if you are on statin. That’s a bad news for liver failure patients
